*cough* jsyk. Clash of Kings and Game of Thrones have nothing (and I mean NOTHING) on the emotional trauma you're going to endure in Storm of Swords. So. Yeah. o.o

http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090719211... HERE IT IS.

It was such a strange movie - I loved it, but I walked out of the theater a little confused with the overall feel of it, haha.

I don't think that's necessarily true. If you take X-Men for example - the civil rights movement that they erased from the movie is meant to be paralleled in the fight for rights for mutants. Mystique's entire story line is about race and being accepted as who and what she is, instead of being forced to try to pass. In Captain America, Steve Roger's story is about trying to fit in, even when you can't. The historical story lines that are left out of these movies often fit right in - and I don't think any watcher/reader is expecting an end all be all solution for these issues. Of course we're not - like you said, these problems haven't been resolved in our own times, how can we expect to resolve them in the past.

But pretending they don't exist perpetuates the myth that they never existed then, so they can't exist now. It makes an audience (a white, hetero-normative audience) comfortable, but it does a disservice to the story as a whole and erases an important narrative that will NEVER be resolved if we don't confront them in the hear and now.

And you should definitely, definitely go back to watching Mad Men. It's so so good!

You should have seen me during the query stage, lol. Not pretty, even keeping these things in mind. But I survived, so HURRAH! :D
