A carrier wave is used to "excite" the tag so it spits out the data within.
The chips have no internal power source so they get energized this way.
There is a coil integrated with the chip that acts like the secondary winding of a transformer.
When the excite field induces a current in the coil, that current is rectified into DC to power the chip up and the chip modulates the return path RF out of the same coil back to the reader.
Heres the clincher....an excite field of TOO HIGH OF AN AMPLITUDE will fry the chip.
So you can fry one without touching it....

There are a few qualifications though.
1) we still have a non-communist form of government with the ability to vote them out.
2) Acorn hasnt rigged the elections beyond all hope of fairness
3) Obama hasnt found a way to remove congressional term limits by sneaking it into some bill
4) Somehow Obama hasnt figured out a way to make himself look good to the idiotic brainwashed masses by then.
We are doing the right thing to combat all of this....spemnd all of our time spreading awareness. The clock is running out and neither the statist nor the people can afford to take a knee. Like you I am happy about recent signs of hope.

Its like when NEO jumps inside the Smith program in the MAtrix series and then explodes him from within.
With Czars there is no need for congress, senate, supreme court, any of that obsolete crap.
Obama will rule with his loyal communist advisors.
Its so classicly obvious its sick. This has to lead to revolt and horrible things.
They are taking the medicine, doctors, food supply, national defense....on and on (guns might be a problem, but a small one). They have made moves on every single aspect of our freedom. We are being logistically surrounded. Even those who feel they are awake to this need to wake up further.
If you really read the health bill it contains the framework for government sanctioned home invasion. With the other bills in place they barely need another excuse from a legal standpoint to come get us.
As we wake up they seem to be advancing more quickly as if in a panic. the healthcare bill will drive fast action if they decide to force it through against our will.

Perhaps that is the plan....to get us so pissed off that we rise up and they have someplan to make fools of us and make us out to be threats to the USA.
They cant possibly think nobody would notice he is just a foreign communist human trojan horse.
