Making him a new character is kinda the point. He's not working at the moment, he can either be abandoned and underused forever, or they can try rewrite him. No choice is perfect, but I'd prefer they at least try something to change the status quo.

It's normally better to have characters do their development on screen, but there's a couple problems with that here:
1) Spike needs quite a bit of development, 22/44 mins probably won't cut it
2) 5 years of spike episodes so far have been lacklustre. I can't imagine a good Spike episode with things as they are.

Here's a controversial idea for discussion, maybe what would benefit him would be to leave the show for a while (a hibernation perhaps, or some sort of adventure).

He's not in the mane 6, the show can go on without him for a while. When he's not the focus of an episode, he might as well not be in it.

Have him leave for a while (for at least 0.5 series, at most 1.5 series), then the episode where he returns can be something important and out of the box. And his character can have significant changes to it without it being jarring.

He's clearly not meeting his potential as a character, a break might help.

This episode was crazy, lots of ups and downs i thought. but overall i think it's good. definitely one of the more memorable epiosdes.

I liked:

Most of Discord's gags, having him be the main character worked well.
Pinkie using maud as a boat (does that count as shipping?)
The clever "heart of gold" joke that they set up when discord said the smooze had a "heart of <pause> blob" but then it turns out later he literally has a heart of gold, which discord promptly removes to save the day.

I wasn't so fond of:

Fluttershy holding the idiot ball, she was so obvious to discord's oblivious jealousy, i can't believe she wouldn't figure it out. at the gala he literally bumps her rump and she doesn't even turn round to see who was there, did she not feel it? The telling bit is when discord has to straight up tell fluttershy why he's jealous (you invited HER [to the gala instead of me]...), and you see tree hugger's eye's widen, as if to say "oh, yeah, i can see why he's mad"
Tree hugger: they picked her 1 character trait (being a hippie) and focussed on it hard, making her a 1 dimensional character who annoyed me. her lines were almost irrelevant they were so predictable. also the yoko ono bit was just wut.

Remove Rarity: She is a poorly designed character. A M5 would work fine.

Add Zecora: With Twilight being made an alicorn princess so ridiculously early, Celestia basically stopped being her mentor, that entire student/teacher relationship was dissolved. Zecora could fill that spot.

I don't want anything put behind links, it makes it more work to go through drawfiends. Scroll wheels exist for a reason.

Maybe put all the currently spoilered images on their own section at the end of the drawfiend, that way when people reach the fetishy section they know it's coming and then they scroll down at their own risk.

Who said they didn't have DOGs? That's not relevant. If you don't want to download a TVrip, nobody will force you to.

Until Hasbro fixes its mess, we don't have the original audio. When iTunes uploads the new file, the audio will be changed on the pirate version as well.

Last series there were episodes with audio errors in the iTunes version that Hasbro never even bothered to fix. So in no way can you ever have the true audio, pirates have to use other sources to fix it, and iTunes has errors. Neither way got you the true audio.

You sound like you're having a bad day (please correct me if your tone was unintentionally terse), but that's no excuse for "could care less". The phrase is "couldn't care less". Because you care so little about colour correction that there is no level of caring that is lower. :) Either way, your opinions on colour correction don't change the fact that even with the improvements made since s1/s2, many people (including myself) prefer the CC version. Yet another way that official sources are often a let down.

It's clear you don't approve of, or like piracy. That's fine, your biz, not here to change your mind. Piracy won't go away any time soon, as the service it provides is better, even when ignoring the price difference.

Actually, pirates in this case provide better than what the above outlets offer. Before this article even went up, the pirates on a well known pony piracy portal had already provided a fixed version of this episode. Currently available in choice of 1080/720, with colour corrected versions, and a low quality version.

TVrips were released before iTunes even released., for those who couldn't wait for Monday.

Agreed with Accipiter, keep playlists, don't autoplay. Don't be that guy on myspace who had terrible music on autoplay every time you visited his page.
