I just wanted to let you know I finished Farnham's Freehold today. I thought it was pretty good. I definitely needed a break from the more serious non-fiction books I have been reading lately such as Liberty and Tyranny, Liberal Fascism, and Meltdown (all very good and educational by the way). The story line was quite a stretch, but I guess it's to be expected with Sci Fi. But it had some great underlying themes. I like your taste. You listed a couple other of Heinlein's books, which would you recommend most? I'd like to read another one of his books sometime in the near future. I'm now starting Hayek's Road to Serfdom. Meltdown got me interested in Austrian Economics and I've heard Hayek's book is a classic that is very applicable in our day. Anyway, thanks for the recommendations, and keep them coming if you have more. I'm on a quest to make up for the many years of missed reading because I was too absorbed in shallow, worthless, pop-culture nonsense. God speed.

You're absolutely right. There is no direction to any movement right now. I thought something was starting with this and the tea party thing, but it seems to be falling apart quickly. I wonder what, if anything will be happening on the 4th of July.
As far as our discussion earlier about project X - i honestly thought that part of the book was a pretty big stretch, but I think it was symbolic of how a government must take measures to keep their people oppressed in order to maintain a dictatorship. I would never see anything like that happening here. Despite the widespread apathy, Americans overall are a freedom loving people, and I believe that they would stand up before it got as far as it did in the book. However, if history teaches us anything, it's to never underestimate the evils that men are capable of. I imagine that if you asked any German in the early 1900's whether or not they believed their people would be responsible for widespread genocide of the Jews, they would say you were crazy and that would never happen.

I liked your post. I'm glad you appreciate America for what it is, or at least was. Unfortunately, we are on the fast track to socialism right now, and things are changing for the worst at an unbelievable pace. My last name is also Webb. I am in medical school, so soon to be a doctor as well. What kind of doctor are you? Good luck in all your future endeavors.

Hey you know, he's right. In fact let's just take this a step further and have the government force employers to pay for their employees to always be on vacation. Then their employees will always be happy. There's the solution to all our unemployment problems! I'm so glad our congressmen are looking out for the little guy.

Sorry I still haven't responded to your last question. I think it's a good one and I've been thinking about it lately. However, I'm in the middle of finals right now so my focus is elsewhere for a little bit. I just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. I'll catch up with you soon. God speed.
