She only went out on her own to discover this BECAUSE she is facing confirmation and knew in the current climate that taxes are a hot button issue and under a national microscope. I doubt that if she was simply continuing in her role as a Governor, she would have revisited her past returns at this time, if ever.

I really don't think this was a matter of principle, but one of making sure to address her issues before it might have reached the national stage as a problem such as it did for Geithner and many others that have had to withdraw from confirmation in the past few months.

~In addition, the bill gives Geithner the authority to decide what pay is "unreasonable" or "excessive." And it directs the Treasury Department to come up with a method to evaluate "the performance of the individual executive or employee to whom the payment relates."~

I'm wondering when Mr. Geithner might find the time to do all this additional work since he can't handle all the balls he has in the air now. Not to mention the fact that other countries can't even get them to answer the phone at the Treasury Department because of the lack of staffing.

The government will not apologize to the AIG employees or any other people they will roll over in the near future while ignoring the constitution along the way. It will be an icy day in July in Georgia before that will happen. Everyone in government, in Congress and the Administration, are scrambling to cover their collective hinneys and in the process not afraid to trample over anything in their path in their haste to break a few more things along the way. Heaven forbid that they think before they legislate.

Unfortunately I fear this is just the beginning in a battle to retain our basic rights to freedom in this country.

Oh, and I'm a conservative, not a liberal. There are those amongst us in education that are.

I'm a public school teacher and in the classroom every day trying to make a difference. I'd love to see those that toss off comments like that spend even a week with a class of 22-30 children for 8 hours a day.

To insult all teachers by the misdeeds or poor performance of some is ridiculous. There are many excellent dedicated teachers in public schools ensuring that children receive an education in a constantly changing environment where the rules are changed each and every day.

Just like any other profession, there will be various degrees of performance quality.

In today's world, we can't afford to have a leader that won't stand up for our allies in a definitive way without hesitation. Missiles about to fly won't wait while a speech is written or for a public opinion poll to be taken. I guarantee that Mr. Netanyahu will not hesitate if he feels Israel's safety is at issue, he does not have the luxury of endless diplomacy when his country is being threatened and bombed.

A leader cannot worry about always being politically correct and popular all the time, not hurting anyones feelings or trying to be a friend to everyone. There are times where you have to act decisively and with actions to back up the tough words in order to protect the interests of those that have always been our allies and that believe in freedom over terror.

(oh wait, I forgot, we don't have terrorists anymore...my bad)

The firing of GM CEO Rick Wagoner today by the administration is a warning shot across the bow for any company, private or public, that dares to not follow the master plan or fails to succeed. It drew the line in the sand for all CEO's and/or board members to serve notice that no job is safe if the government has a stake in the company. It represents a massive blurring of the line between government and the private sector.

Of course, given Mr. Geithner's testimony last week regarding increased powers for the government even over companies that have not taken any federal funding, it appears that we have stopped tiptoeing down that slippery slope and are now instead flying down it like a slip and slide.

Three words come immediately to mind...overkill, paranoid and narcissist.

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder defined as "a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy."

The narcissist is described as turning inward for gratification rather than depending on others and as being excessively preoccupied with issues of personal adequacy, power and prestige. Narcissistic personality disorder is closely linked to self-centeredness.

I believe we need so-called "scary" words like Terrorists or War on Terror to remind us to stay vigilant and to not forget that we can be vunerable, even on our own soil. I'm personally not worried about hurting the feelings of anyone trying to do our country or our citizens harm.

I also believe that we need to be scared of those situations and groups around the world that are filled with hatred for us. To dumb down the language doesn't make us look benevolent, but instead weak and ineffective, and it certainly doesn't change the facts. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil and all you'll end up with is being blindsided in the end.

We need to continue to push toward safety, not play games with semantics.

The adage of "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is wise advice. Perhaps it's just me, but I'd much rather be safe than sorry and then suffering the losses if we drop the ball in favor of weakening our image around the world.

~it's a necessary thing for any government to have a broader range of tools for dealing with these kinds of things.~

When the government decides it needs to have the power of political process to use carte blanche over independent agencies we are losing yet another one of our liberties. The government was not meant to oversee every detail of our lives and private enterprises. Those in charge have given ample evidence of just how frantic and scattered their "solutions" are of late.

Not only are we increasingly in dangerous territory, this is one more indication of our administration's desire to socialize our country.

Where does it stop? Only when those amongst us get off the sidelines and let our displeasure with the attempts to intrude into every area of our lives be known. It's very true that you have to use it or lose it and if we don't use our right of free speech, we will wake up one day to find it has disappeared right along with many things we take for granted as Americans.
