I'm so very happy for the winner, honestly I am, but how very anti-climactic for those of us who have waited so long. I wish I could watch the HGTV show but cable was the first thing to go when we started cutting costs. I, for one, am committed to never stop dreaming...

Hello Janzee, and thanks for the response! I am fairly new folk on the DH 2011 blog; I was lurking on the Green Home blog before the winners were announced... I did ask some shopowners in Stowe about the DH but no one could tell me much of anything. I was almost thinking all the residents of Stowe must have had to sign a confidentiality agreement, or they had put something in their water! Actually, the Spruce Peak area is very exclusive so I think the shopowners and everyday folk (I'd fall into that category) may be fairly removed from the action. I have to tell you, even if I were to never swing a golf club on the course up there, I'd have the time of my life driving a golf cart on the roller-coaster-like path between holes! Wheeeeeee!

So glad you will be able to enjoy Fall in New England. I first went about 10 years ago on a bicycle tour in VT and fell in love with it there. I still have my "Vermont Ain't Flat" sweatshirt! Holler if you need any recommendations on places to leaf peep or a great breakfast restaurant (in Mendon, VT) or coffee places (like Green Mountain Coffee in Waterbury -- very near to Stowe). I've been on a tight budget in my travels to New England and Stowe is on the higher end of the spectrum. One of the most photographed Autumn scenes in VT is of the church and surrounding village in Stowe, from the road up to Mt. Mansfield (Hwy 108). Hmmmm, maybe your husband would like to get a great photograph up on that particular road?

Are you going for leaf-peeping? =) Turn off Hwy 100 onto Hwy 108 (only goes one way) right in Stowe and follow 108 out of town. You'll go by a lot of restaurants and shops and inns and begin climbing a bit. Spruce Peak is on the right just before the road curves and starts to climb up to the Mt. Mansfield ski area. The Dream Home is up (and I do mean up) in the trees on the right, just before the ski area entrance. So as not to cause an accident, it's a better view of the DH if you turn around in the ski area entrance and head back down. Speaking from experience, this can be done several times for optimal viewing, squealing, ooing and aahing. I was there on a Sunday evening, hardly any traffic, and was able to snap off a few pictures.

Once I figured out where THE house was I didn't go past any of the "immediate" signs but I did find myself on some questionable roads prior. Mainly because they went way up into multi-million dollar home areas and the dirt roads were actually really bad (from recent rains??). And Oh. My. Gosh! I have never seen a more beautiful golf course anywhere! Just riding on the golf course trails would be awesome!

Spent 2 glorious days and nights at the Green Mountain Inn, in Stowe, last weekend. Of course I was compelled to go Dream Home Hunting and found my way to Spruce Mountain on Sunday. "Beautiful" is not a big enough word to describe the views! Although I was beyond tempted to make my way past the "closed for construction" and "residents only" signs I refrained. I actually "found" the 2011 DH by seeing light reflecting off the windows while driving on the highway below, at the base of the Mt. Mansfield ski area. Squeals of joy and a happy dance behind the steering wheel followed the moment. What an amazing area! I can't wait to see the project unfold!

Love the inspiration and the idea of living in the trees! I appreciate the clue in the fourth picture: "extensive system of covered porches on a smaller scale at HGTV Dream Home 2011." When I take a deep breath I can imagine myself there, playing my own version of musical chairs to find my favorite porch spot and view! Oh, and coffee! I'll be drinking Green Mountain Coffee while I'm in my favorite porch spot. (Green Mountain Coffee is headquartered in VT and is awesome, with lots of Fair Trade and Organic roasts.)

I like the clean lines of the shelves in the kitchen and, if the cabinets are designed to slide out, bending is not such an issue (but we don't know the built-in functional design elements). Perhaps a picture of the "inside" of the kitchen could be posted and we'd all have a better idea. I'd also like to see a picture facing the frig, to see what cabinetry is on that wall, as well as whether or not there is a pantry.
