I'm suffering from Dystopian ennui at the moment, but I wonder if Dystopian Light would appeal to me. On the other hand, I hate it when the Dystopia isn't fully explained. But maybe slow burn world-building is my new favorite thing?

Okay, first you got me kind of excited about this book, and then you tell me about the MID and I got all cross-eyed. I don't think I'll be reading this one. I love the "morbid fascination with apples." Cracks me up.

Oh, and underage heroines/older heroes in YA is a fascinating topic that needs exploring, I think.

A Countess Below Stairs was my first Eva Ibbotson, too. I love the scene where Anna takes Olive to visit her family. I now have an insane desire to drink a toast and throw my glass into the fireplace.

Ahhh! You're killing me, here! I have a great love of Eva Ibbotson, and A Company of Swans is my favorite (along with The Morning GIft). I think you're right about the saccharine nature of Ibbotson's storytelling, but that's what makes her such a comfort read for me. I love the way Ibbotson's world works, and I go back to her time and again.

The Reluctant Heiress is definitely one of my least favorite Eva Ibbotsons, but I didn't dislike it as much as you seem to. Tess, upon reflection, allows far too many people to take advantage of her, but I didn't read her as TSTL. I think I'm going to have to re-read this one.

I'm pretty sure what he's doing with his hands is on everyone's mind.

And I wasn't even exaggerating. I really did have nightmares about it. And I think Jenny was sorry she ever told me about the biting incident.
