Truth be told... I really believe that the 360 update from a few weeks (the one that changed nothing but was laying "groundwork" for the big update to come) messed with the XBL connection settings. I have never had an issue with XBL until that update and now I frequesntly cant get into game servers and my XBL is just generally A LOT slower. Also I often cant join or create XBL Parties or chat.

I really do believe that update did something bad behind the scenes.

Also, I noticed that NHL 10 accesses XBL a lot more then it should. It seems to try to be connecting to it all the time... often for no apparent reason. It has made it so that I am unplugging XBL when I play, just to avoid issue (i been getting freeze's when the game cant connect to EA Servers).

Wow, I couldnt disagree more about the game playing the same way... maybe it does if you dumb it down and set up the controls to purposely play like NHL 09...

A lot of people are turning off the new passing controls becasue they are too hard for them. But they REALLY add a lot to the game, especially the cycling and breakout game.

The game feels quite different. Quite better in fact. No more SUPER AI knowing exactly how to accept each loose puck without breaking momentum, WAY MORE realistic puck physics, nice/suble differences to the controls... also the BAP Goalie mode is totally revamped with new controls and fell that make it REALLY, REALLY fun.

There are tons of minor gripes though... mostly on the part of missing "polish". Truth be told, I really believe that EA screwed the Hockey Devs as far as bidget goes. You know they only get a FRACTION of what all other EA sports games get (despite all the awards) . So I dont think they had time to add the polish. (though the EASHL does have some GREAT new features and their web presence blows Madden's out of the water)

Ultimatly when I am playing my 200th or 300th game, I will be thankful that the gameplay was where they put their limited resources into instead of the "polish" but it is frustrating at times.

This is why I am a Pasta Padre reader. Objective reviews and he is not afraid to admit that he might have been wrong (even if it was only from the smallest sample size that he was making an assessment).

Despite what others might think, I think Pasta gives games a fair shake.

Also, it doesnt hurt that he has very simialr tastes to me and I have come to trust that his instincts will almost certainly be the same as mine when I get my habds on the game, becasue of this there is a huge level of trust there. Keep it up Pasta.

I picked up NBA 2K9 a few months after release becasue I just couldnt go without a BBall game all year, but didnt need on ASAP. But I got to admit that EA is making me think it might be time to go back to them after years of picking the 2K series. And not only that, but I probably wont wait so ling this year either. I'll still reserve my choice until a few weeks after release of both games and see what the public opinion (and our dear friend Pasta) have to say. Point is, this is the closest I think the race has been for me for years, and I am certainly interested, thats obviously a plus.

Yeah, any comments/critiques of these? I did a lot of work on North Texas (boredom) so I will use them as a first test. Will let you guys know what I think after Sunday Softball.

This sucks. Fans of UFC should welcome a solid game from EA so that there is always a fire under the ass of both companies' games. Nothing beats competition to drive the quality of a product up.
