Education should be a collaborative effort by teachers, parents and administrators. Students need to come with a clear understanding of what they want to accomplish and how to go about achieving those goals.

Parents abdicate too much control, mostly because they are exhausted from work and chores and it's easy to leave it to the school and then complain when the results are failure.

A successful college experience which culminates in graduation starts long before the student actually begins as a freshman.

Each side of the debate wants to point to the other as the cause of failures, but neither is wholly to blame.

If unemployment goes down at all in the next two years, it will be hard for the Dems to claim it was because of anything other than the extended tax rate cuts. That will make the ability to make the case for further extension easier.

Neiman, one need only look at the condition and treatment of women in the Islamic world to know what happens when people are kept ignorant. Knowledge is power.

The state of the educational system is the product of feel good bleeding heart liberalism and demented willful destruction by those who use the former as pawns. If the founding fathers of this country had let the timid win the day, we would not be the country we are.

I do not doubt that many good teachers believe that the liberal wasteland that education has become is a model of compassion and equality, but it is false compassion and equality of underachievement.

There is so much that needs correcting and many are doing that through homeschooling and some very good charter schools. That is why they are so feared and hated by liberals.

Just as democrats are blocking making them permanent now. I imagine there will be slight uptick in hiring and that could possibly lead to a better debate in 2012 when it comes around again. If there is real improvement, the Dems will have to acknowledge it.

But, then my husband says I see everything through rose colored glasses:)

The worst part of that tax increase is that there was not the 2/3 majority vote our constitution requires for a tax rate hike, a suit was filed and it reached the Nevada Supreme Court who then said that the legislature could ignore that requirement and raise the taxes because they were needed.

The really sad thing is that if you questioned Nevadans, most of them would have no clue about any of this back story. They don't pay attention and have no clue how they are being robbed by these blood sucking pigs.

Here in Nevada, several years ago, they raised taxes by 800 million dollars through across the board type increases. After the first year, they realized that they had about 300 million more in funds than were needed. The great powerful men in charge decided to refund to the people that 300 surplus, but nothing was ever said about repealing the taxes.

Of course, the next step was an increase in all the state budgets or the creation of new programs.

Fast forward a few years. The BASE spending has now been increased and we have a deficit because the revenues have fallen so sharply due to foreclosures and the downturn in tourism which has resulted in the largest unemployment numbers in the country. The powers that be are all whining that CUTS are going to have to be made and oh, the consequences are just going to be DIRE!

Now we find out that one of the high schools has a full time mariachi band teacher. THAT"S ALL HE TEACHES! Oh, and he was arrested for having a homosexual relationship with one of his students.

This has got to stop! It is so out of control that for those who are in legitimate need of help, there is nothing to give.

Happy Thanksgiving to all here at SAB. Wish I could spend more time here but still am grateful for when I can take a quick peek at what is being talked about and said here.

I am working black friday starting at 3AM so this evening will be spent trying to catch a little sleep.

Hope you have all had a happy day with your families.

You are correct in your assessment of what the pope said and why. Unfortunately, it won't keep liberal nihilists from using it to convince Catholics that the pope now says condoms are okay and in keeping with the moral teachings of the Church.

The Catholic Church is unwavering in her condemnation of sexual immorality which was once commonly disavowed but now enjoys mainstream approval or shrugs of indifference by many Christians not wanting to be judgmental.

It is not compassionate to ignore the bondage of sexual sin. It is willful neglect.

I commend your willingness to try to understand the pope and what his statement means for the faithful and our hope for the unfaithful.

People with wealth as opposed to those with a generous income love to say they are all about higher taxes, but what do they do with their wealth? They shelter it from taxation and put it in trusts for their heirs. Charitable contributions reveal that they want to control where their money goes and how it is used. Those contributions also are tax deductible. They know that private sector charities are more effective and more efficient than giving to the poor and disadvantaged through government bureaucracy.

It always comes down to control. Government to them is about control and the more dependent the citizenry is, the more control the government has.

It seems that Ms. Murkowski prefers this president who is just so smart he's bored to death.

Bitterness leaves the face pinched and hard.

Unfortunately she won and that is all that matters in the end.
