one year off fron 1914- NO YOU READ and know what life was then- I would love to see you spend months in a wagon subjected to the waether, Indians and finding food. You could not survife now withoit foodstamps and safeway

My 2 Great was committed in 1891- she had 13 children between 1853-1878. Her husband uprooted them in 1889 an died- most the older children were gone to their own lives and as I said there was no communication as there is today. To notify the family in the late 1800 would have been hard, They were in Umitiilla co at the time of commitment and then on to other states trying TO LIVE.I tried to get her remains but they were so badly handled they could not identifiy hers. To say the families did not care is too broad of a statement. The families lived all over the west, there were no phones or internet to communicate only snail mail and telegrams. Most people were on the move. Many didn;t have the money to go to Salem to visit and were most likely told not to as it would just upset the patient. The blame lies with the hospital for their lack of caring
