I can understand that you have reached a point of questioning some of your beliefs, it happens to just about everyone around your age. I am pleased that I may have had a small part in that questioning and pray that I may have had a small part in forming those beliefs. As far as Glenn's old 912 Project, yes it did manage to wake up a number of people, however, as with everything, some people took advantage of Glenn's name and idea and corrupted it for their own purposes, and this purpose is not what Glenn intended. Point, this is one of the problems that has brought America to this point in history.
I agree, there is a cycle, but as with any cycle, it can be interrupted and this is what we need to do. How to do this? Some people say we have to elect conservatives. Yes. But it seems that everyone is looking for that perfect candidate. Flash! He/she doesn't exist. Others have hinted that maybe a second revolution is needed. Flash! Does anyone think that it will really do any good. Remember, we don't have the Washington or Jefferson or anyone even close to the Founding Fathers. Can anyone say that someone will wake away from real power. There are still others that feel knowing the everything about the founding fathers and the founding documents will solve the problem. It will help, but unless that knowledge is passed on, PRACTICED and we have people who are willing to sacrifice to ensure that those documents are enforced, then all the knowledge in the world isn't going to stop the cycle.
I feel that the only way to stop the cycle is for every family to get back to the basics of life, learn to think for yourself, do what is right for you and your family, don't be a sheep, following every suggestion / idea that some talk show host tells you. Learn to research and check the facts for yourself. If you have problems checking these out ask for help and most importantly keep an open mind.
I feel that if every good thinking American kind of follows this and in turn passes on the ideas on to their children and maybe another family, we might begin to interrupt the cycle, but this will take time, the immediate concern is, no matter who is nominated, whether you like, agree with them, we have to vote! We have to defeat Obama, and then, maybe we can begin to get America back on the right track.

Yes, the system is rigged against the very few people that may be out there, no argument from me there. Now, we recognize ONE of the problems, let's look at the cause. In my opinion, it is the way society has changed, I'm not a social worker or do I have any "training" in that area, just from I see and I see that the American people have gotten too egocentric, they are more worried about their 15 minutes of fame, they will do anything, violate any code of honor, stab anyone in the back and betray anyone to have their moment in the spotlight. I can give you any number of examples just from my experience, as you and I know, in fact a new one came to light just recently where something (an idea) was "borrowed" from RF and no credit was given. WHY? Because it might give them the spotlight. Yet, these people claim to be Patriots, how can anyone be a patriot, IF they can not live up to a person code of honor.
As far as talk show hosts, unlike you, I didn't take every word as gospel, I would check things out for myself, but unfortunately too many people have become zombies, if a talk show host says something, then those people will run around shouting from the rooftops what the host says UNTIL the next subject. Then when someone does research and finds errors, they REFUSE to accept it. Again, I can give you personal examples, but I feel you and others know what I'm referring to.
People say we have to work to straighten out America, I can give you a list of things that our government has done wrong, BUT how can "we" straighten out / correct these problems IF we, ourselves, are the problem. Everyone thinks that if the election goes the way we want, America will be back on track, WRONG! The only way to get America back on the right track is to get the American people back on the right track and frankly I don't see that happening anytime soon. You said you see a Thomas Jefferson out there, I would like to see / meet this person.

I disagree with you and Glenn, there is not a Jefferson, or Washington, Madison or Franklin out there, the culture has changed to the point that it true sacrifice by the "people" has all but gone the way of the VCR. Yes, there is our military, but how many of them, after sacrificing for 4 plus years, really want to continue the sacrifice? Few if any.
Now, I know you and others will most likely argue with me, but just look at the people out there. How many people have climbed on a "bandwagon" because some talk show host hinted that this is the way to do something, just to try to make a name for themselves. How many people ARE trying to be the next Jefferson, and letting everyone know how they are the "leader", the same with a Washington, how many people, in and out of government, WILL willingly walk away from fame and fortune, as Washington did? How many people will use whatever means, betray any trust just to have their 15 minutes of fame? How many people care only for themselves, their family and their "friends", claiming to be patriots, yet when the hard choice is needed to be made, will shrink from that choice. How many people will sacrifice something as simple as time, to fight the battle? This is what, in my opinion, made our Founding Fathers great, they were willing to sacrifice all, including time with their families, in fact they unintentionally put families in danger, how many people today are willing to do that?
"These are the times that try men's soul: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this time of crisis, shrink from the service of his country..."

Unfortunately, like you and many others, I do not trust the current crop of critters. HOWEVER, there is too much construing going on in the country AND too many people are jumping too conclusions without checking into the facts, which was the original intent of the reply.
There are too many people who will listen to talk show hosts, talking heads, and even the critters themselves without checking the facts themselves. Yes, we know the language can be vague, but face it even our Constitution, as WRITTEN, has vague language in it, Article I, Section 8, Clause 3, The "Commererce Clause" or the all popular Article II, Section 1, Clause 5. Now, everyone can sit and debate exactly what the Founding Fathers meant when this was written. But does anyone REALLY know what they were thinking? We can look at every source available, but we do not know exactly they were thinking, only what we, as individuals, conclude. BUT the point is, do you listen to someone who is on the radio, T.V. or the net to tell you, or do you take a few minutes and read it yourself? That's the point I have been trying to get across.
As I have written in a number of posts, I feel that a number of people have gotten intellectually lazy and are vulnerable to being guided. Look back over history, and just remain in the 20th century, how many revolutions have taken place for the worst, all because of the suspicion raised by some intellectual, well spoken person. SUSPICION will destroy slowly, so a person needs to be informed, be observant, and as Reagan said, "Trust but verify".
Do I really trust the current crop of critters? NO! But, as it stands, this is what we have in place, all we can do is each and every election attempt to elect people who will do the right thing if not and people continue to live with constant suspicion and distrust someone (group) will do something really stupid (my opinion) and then what will be the consequences. Is there a Washington, Madison, or Jefferson out there? With our current culture, I don't think so and I don't believe there ever will be.

Are you saying that the "War on terror" is not a world wide battle field? Just what would you recommend we do IF a terrorist with an American passport is capture in Iraq with a suitcase nuke by a Marine fire team. He is to be detained at Gitmo or brought to the U.S. to stand trial? How about if that same person is caught on tape plotting to plant a suitcase nuke at say a mall during the holiday season? Do you wait to catch him in the act, and maybe there is a "dead man's" switch. Now, of the two scenario's which is covered by 1031 and 1032 AS WRITTEN, not what you think, not what read into it.

I never said we disagreed, the whole point was that as I said, the American people have gotten intellectually lazy, and if that offends, well so be it, but how many people follow blindly what they hear on the radio or see on T.V., from some who is suppose to be so smart that they have their own show, wrote a book or what ever, and not bother to do some research, to check it out for themselves. And people wonder why we are in the shape we're in as a country.
As far as laws being in place prior to 2001, yes but remember, we are fighting a different type of war Yes I said war) although Congress or the Clown in Chief refuses to admit it. The terrorists are not covered under Geneva Convention, which deals with uniform troops, so the congress in their ultimate knee jerk reaction passed laws to cover terrorists, and then of course what do you do with those caught on U.S. soil that are NOT citizens or legal residents, unfortunately / fortunately depending on one's view, if they are captured on American soil, they are subject to the laws of America so maybe the critters were trying to get them to a POW status.

Hell the IRS can tear anyone's life apart just because they are the IRS. How many times has it been used long before the Patriot Act was put into effect?
As far as the definition of a terrorist, true there isn't one. Remember when some liberal said, "One man's terrorist is someone else's freedom fighter" and the comments that were thrown around that. So, what is definition of a terrorist?
Now on the abuse of laws, give me a break, that happens not only at national level but at the local level as well. Try not cutting your grass for a month in some cities and watch how fast the city comes down on you and then decide to look for other things. Abuse of authority / laws has been around as long as there has been some kind of seat of power. "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely."
This is also holds true for the courts, face it, the courts have become corrupt with politics, but then again, name me something that hasn't been corrupted by politics and power. I feel, you will be hard pressed to name something.

Did you even bother to read Section 1032:
"(2) COVERED PERSONS.—The requirement in paragraph (1) shall apply to any person whose detention is authorized under section 1031 who is determined (A) to be a member of, or part of, al-Qaeda or an associated force that acts in coordination with or pursuant to the direction of al-Qaeda; and (B) to have participated in the course of planning or carrying out an attack or attempted attack against the United States or its coalition partners. <p style="font-size:16px;background-image:initial;background-color:transparent;border-top-width:0px;border-right-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;border-left-width:0px;border-style:initial;border-color:initial;margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:24px;margin-left:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;vertical-align:baseline"> (3) DISPOSITION UNDER LAW OF WAR. Granted there are a number of laws, regulations on the books. Granted we can't read all of them. BUT (yes the big BUT), the latest Defense Authorization Bill was online and anyone who with a few clicks find it, and lo and behold, it has a contents, a person doesn't have to read the whole thing, just the Section you need to look at. Why didn't people do this, because they are intellectually lazy, they would rather have some talk show host say this or say that, and off they go, its bad. They were even to lazy to read two posts hear on the site about it, and I know you have read my 'works" and no damn well that I thoroughly research and above all REFERENCE what I say and in this case, I even copied and pasted the two sections that was the center of the discussion. YET, people paid more attention to talk show hosts or internet rumors then to check the facts.
Now, you are going to ask, "Do I really trust the government?" Not just NO, but HELL NO, however, since it is in the Bill and in Black and White, I would say we have a better chance of defending against any unauthorized seizures. However, since the outrage, the senate has added the fact that now BH0 has authority to determine whether to treat terrorist as POW's or bring them here to America, and once they are on American soil, they will be subject to our Constitution and all its benefits. Now, if and when this happens and if and when a high profile terrorist is brought here and his cohorts decide to do what Hamas does with Israel and starts kidnapping American citizens and worst yet performing terrorists act on U.S. soil, maybe blow up a school or a mall to force U.S. to release the prisoner, then I wonder what the show hosts will say or better yet what will those people who didn't bother to read the complete subject say.
