I know a couple people who hadn't seen the convention preview who took one look at the Gaga-esque preview clip they posted and thought the episode was going to be total crap. I wonder if that's a factor. Because most of us knew about "The Magic Inside" and Lena Hall, but not the entire fandom.

Well, first, the Babs Seed card is one that's already out (and is probably being reprinted in the Trixie starter). It came out shortly after they revealed on the show she'd gotten the mark.

Second, the image on the card is a still from Apple Family Reunion, edited to include the new cutie mark.

Okay, just making sure I'm understanding the changes here, because I hadn't heard the thing about foils.

So parallel foils (which I'm assuming are 'foil versions of other cards already in the set') are no longer part of the booster packs.

For some reason there's a new level of rarity between Rare and Ultra Rare, that uses the template design of what Ultra Rares used to use.

Ultra Rares are now easier to get and fancier.

And then there's a new absurdly hard to get level of rarity for alternate art cards.

Is that the gist? I'm not trying to be snarky here, just making sure I've got it straight.

Absolutely. I remember playing in one of the last physical tournaments ever, at Gencon some years back. Won the last Culture Shock event of the weekend.

The game is sort of like 'Deadliest Warrior: The Card Game.' It originally came out a decade ago, and it was about pitting historical figures from different cultures against each other, equipped with weapons or special training or empowered by philosophy or whatever. But you could also mix and match cards from different cultures and time periods. Each deck consisted of a total of five cards, and each game only lasted four or five turns. There are people who still play it online.

Honestly, sign one of the fandom being pretty healthy for the moment is that there are MLP conventions pulling bigger numbers than much older and steadier fandoms.

All in all, I rather enjoyed the episode. Though I thought Rainbow Dash's dream was just hammering away at an obvious joke that I thought we'd moved past a couple of seasons ago, character development-wise.

Or it's the rest of his people, buried beneath the Crystal Empire as seen in the Fiendship is Magic comic with his backstory.
