A police officer working the event a few years back said, "I don't have enough tickets in my ticket book to cite everyone who is doing illegal drugs here." He added, "And besides that, it would start a riot." To be fair, there is no way any law enforcement agency can "control" 5,000 people in an environment like Horning's - especially if even 10% (you can pick your own percentage) of the people are under the influence.

There have been reported incidents (yes, to the police) and many unreported incidents of people who were attending a concert at Horning's and were slipped something. They did NOT make a conscious choice to take drugs -- they were drugged against their will. It happens. I've witnessed it.

The police will find out if this kid has a history of drug use and if this was a choice he made. Chances are it was. Either way, I'm sure his parents are devastated.

If you have ever been to a concert event at Horning's Hideout, you know the place is full of people who are doing all kinds of illegal drugs. Acid, ecstasy, weed, roofies, ghb, you name it, it's there. Ever notice all the people carrying around the plastic milk jugs of water to stay hydrated? It wasn't because it was 95 degrees that night. People who attend the concert events at Horning's KNOW that drugs are readily available and that they will NOT get busted for using. That's the well-known Horning's Hideout concert reputation. That's part of the attraction. Why do you think people come from all over the country to attend these events? Just for the great music. Ya, that's it. (Continued below.)

Hang on a second, folks. I don't want to provide an excuse, but, there may be another side of this story to consider.

What if this kid doesn't "normally" do drugs and doesn't have a history of drug use? What if he was slipped something? (No worries, his "friends" will talk if they knew he was using.) Since he's over 21 and can legally drink, it would have been incedibly easy for anyone to drop something into his drink. It's not like there is a small designated beer garden at Horning's where consumption is monitored. The alcohol area is HUGE! (Continued below.)

Don't be naive, zers09. If you've been there, you know. (I've been there.) These are the stories that made the news that I can factually demonstrate with links. These are not singular unfortunate events, but a well-established and escalating pattern of recklessness and a blatant disregard for public safety. The list of crimes and problems that have been reported to the authorities is pages and pages long. Just ask the neighbors, the Washington County Sheriff''s department and the North Plains police.

Correction: The court decision was in 2008.

Yes, I believe the ultimate responsibility lies with Jensen - he made the choice to drug up. However, the environment of the "festivals" and reputation of Horning's Hideout makes it extremely conducive and highly likely for something to go horribly wrong. It always does.

2005 - 19 drug arrests and a reported rape. http://www.co.washington.or.us/News/SONews/upload....
2008 - A ridiculous court decision that stripped away a layer of protection. https://www.gsblaw.com/news/news/hornings_hideout....
2010 - A wreck involving a DUII Horning's concert goer and a motorhome with a family inside. http://www.katu.com/news/98710674.html
2011 - And now a death? http://sunset.katu.com/news/crime/woman-killed-wh....

I am not alone in my thinking. I hope a lawsuit shuts this place down.
