Have to disagree. Whatever SCREW-UPS some PETA members/officers/whoever participated in have nothing to do with the current euthansia laws in our state's counties.

And again, not everyone who is against current NC animal control/shelter laws and practices is a nut job.

If this discussion is going to be about PETA, then I'm done. If we're going to try and help improve our state's animal control practices, then let's do that, and not waste time disparaging people who think it is heinous for our government to systematically kill thousands of healthy animals every year.

A few replies to this very one-sided comment stream:

"taking in only "Highly Adoptable" dogs won't be any help to those who need a little more time for the right home to come along."
----well, every little bit helps! Should one stand by and do nothing?

"Rowan County should adopt whatever method PETA uses to kill the animals"
----Irrelevant and mean-spirited hype. Has nothing to do with Rowan County's, Yadkin County's or any other county's official euthanasia policy.

"I guess getting sensational pictures was more important than proof"
----Sensational, you say? Why are they sensational? They are purely factual if they are pix of the actual process. The reason we think they are sensational is because the process/concept is so HEINOUS. Even you can see that - hence your use of the word sensational. Taking in adoptable animals and killing them is a heinous, sickening, heartbreaking process/concept. Just because we cannot yet figure out how else to control the animal population does not make it less awful. It is what it is.

"Our farm now houses 12 horses, 4 dogs,....."
----That's great, good going! However, we don't all own farms, and don't all have room for lots of animals. So some of us try to help in other ways.

"The incremental goals of AR activists is to ban the selective breeding of dogs and cats, then eventually outlaw animal ownership. Wayne Pacelle, of the Humane Society of the United States (in no way affiliated with Rowan's Humane Society!) has made clear that he ultimately wants to shut down the beef, pork, and poultry industries, and move humans to a vegan diet through mandatory government regulation."
----See if you can learn to stop lumping all of us who love animals and want them to always be treated humanely into this mythical "AR" group you refer to. Because we are NOT all emotion-crazed nut jobs who hope to see pet ownership banned. That is just a convenient label for you - helps you feel comfortable, and feel that you don't really need to do anything to change things because 'those people are just crazy.'
