apparently KATU can't state 'Pearl District' in the beginning of their article but had to refer to it as 'Affluent' so that it looks like OWS are the good guys in this and the 'richie rich' are again oppressing....

I agree that raising taxes is not a solution. And raising property taxes isn't a good thing either, especially with the 58% renters there (by the way -- if you raise taxes on your landlords, it'll trickle down to your rent 4-6 months later...) but there needs to be a re-management of the school system and pay -- get rid of 'Tenure' status and restructure the pay system so some people aren't making so much money and providing so little, at the same time, re-appropriate towards activities and ensuring positive learning growth and demand parental interaction.

I do believe the private sector could make schools better if inter-state competition were allowed and private school was tax deductible and we allowed the free market to self-correct, but I also recognize that this would take time and a generation would be left out, and that this is not acceptable to the population that helped continue to build this situation (since this problem started way back in the '40s and '50s).

Can't think of a better place for the money to go towards, you know, like Schools.... Didn't we just vote to help schools with more taxes on businesses, so why can't the extra 108K go towards schools / year?

Since when did raising taxes solve any problems? Especially raising taxes on the people who CREATE jobs? -->

Hey, the irony here is that Oregon will get a high Long Term Unemployment rate, but the economy will recover in time for politicians to think that they did the right thing, until a major business leaves and pushes Oregon into the Next California.
