I agree with your comments about privacy being an issue. Of course, I believe the government gets far too involved in regulating the private lives of citizens. Its interference goes way beyond providing for the common good and defense. I wonder what the framers of the Constitution would say if they could see us now......

How about learning to act respectfully toward others all the time? How about learning to act with some dignity and integrity? Your true character shows in what you do when no one else is watching. We should teach these youngsters to have character, respect, integrity, not just to act a certain way in front of "mixed company."

As a teacher of U.S. History, I don't see a reason to separate any specific group for a special type of history. We all need to know our collective history. The U.S. is considered a melting pot, not a mixed salad or a buffet. It is a blend of cultures and ethnic groups. By singling out one over the others, it demeans the importance of the rest. We should teach our youth a comprehensive History without "sanitizing" it. History is past and we can't change it or make it pretty if we are to learn from it, just as we can't exclude or highlight certain groups in an attempt to make people feel good without altering the balance of true History.

Kudos to Sheriff Gordon for putting the "opt out" request form on the county website. I already filled it out. Why wait for my letter to arrive in the mail?

That won't go over too well at the high school where I teach... since a teacher carrying concealed in Oregon brought this to the forefront in the first place. Doubtful a holster would go over too well...

I had a scary incident when home alone at night and I am ready and willing to defend myself with my gun in my own home if necessary. I know how and when to use it, I know the laws, and I know it's not a toy, nor an empty threat to be brandished about lightly. I am a very responsible gun owner. After teaching the Bill of Rights to my History classes so many times, I fell confident that it is my right to own a gun. Nowhere in the second amendment does it state the condition that my ownership of a gun is dependent upon my willingness to share that information with the general public.

What about girls who start to "bleed" at age 11 or 12? Does that mean they are not children?

I am not stupid, nor a redneck. You, however, are rude. Why don't you make a comment that includes proof of your point instead of a personal attack. If that's all you can come up with, there's no reason for anyone to even read your comments. Why don't you go to Walmart and buy yourself a can of dignity?

Yet another logical argument from D_R which consists of only concrete evidence and no raving lunatic-style personal attacks of any kind....

Have you ever been east of Troutdale? Have you ever lived in Eastern Oregon? There are many educated people who live in rural counties in this state. By the way, education equals knowledge, but not wisdom or manners. You might be educated, but you are also rude and a completely brainwashed fool.
