These kids are truly astounding in their sense of entitlement. Even with a 32% fee increase the UC system remains a top class education at a bargain basement price for California residents. I was paying similar tuition twenty some years ago, and that was 1980's dollars. Try getting into a comparable private university at these prices, they'd laugh at you.

I think pooling of resources is an excellent idea. If you have a group, you may want to get together to make a donation to sponsor a child's education for a year. Also, I applaud you for supporting Children's International. We generally support three varieties of charities; Children, Veterans and Animals.

I also like the sneaky approach. As I often tell people who disagree with me; I'm not going to argue with you, I'm just going to go around you.

Time to take the power out of their hands then. They can cut spending on good education programs all they want. But as yet it isn't illegal for We The People to do it ourselves. I encourage everyone to contribute to a cause they support.

Thanks for the support! It seems that great minds think alike. ;-) My wife and I are about your age, graduated highschool in the early eighties. We're Catholic, but public school kids. We had the beneft of involved parents who could afford and chose good districts. I don't like to disparage older generations, but it is the folks in our age bracket, 30's to mid 40's (so called X-ers) that give me the most hope. I find an uncomfortable number of Boomers to be hopelessly self-absorbed, and many of the younger folks are not quite mature enough to understand yet.

No matter what happens, keep doing right and it will come back to you.

All,

If I may make a suggestion. I'm sure we all saw Glenn's segments about the DC voucher program that is being discontinued by the Feds. My wife and I have made a contribution ot the Network for Good that Glenn mentioned to try to replace at least some of this money that is being lost. We believe that if this is to be an active movement, then we need to man up and live our principles. I would therefore urge each and every one of you to contribute what you can to this program. Don't go nuts, but do something. Whatever you can afford. What better statement than to show them that we don't need them. We The People can do it ourselves, and do it better.

Jaquline,
Please don't demean this cause by posting this type of nonsense. I do not doubt your sincerity, but I do doubt your facts. The country has problems aplenty without making any up.

You are correct. Actually, marriage is what I would call a legal designation. If you think about it, marriage is defined by law in any society, whether that is religious law in the case of a church (which comes from God), or civil law in the case of a government (which comes from the people). The concept of marriage has no meaning outside of the law that creates it. This is apparent since different societies define marriage differently. Once a legal designation is created, whatever body created that designation has the prerogative to dole it out as the members see fit. My question then is this; how can something that does not exist outside of the system that creates it be a fundamental right?

MeJane, Unfortunately, you are not crazy. I see the same things.

Interesting idea, but I think this was tried under the Articles of Confederation and did not work out too well. At any rate, I'd prefer limiting the role of the Federal government using the tools already in the Constitution.

Re-assert the 9th and 10th amendments in a formal way to give them meaning. Clarify the construction of the Commerce Clause so that it cannot be used as a catch-all for Federal intervention in State matters.
