WildJew, you are correct- there will be no peace in the Middle East as long as Islam insists on the eradication of Jews and Israel. Israel has fought this ideology since before its' birth as a state. For generations Israel has tried to find a political solution to its' problems, and has failed. Barring a miracle from God, it will continue to fail. Let's pray for the miracle.
The Pope is well aware of who God is. To suggest otherwise is ludicrous. God is also aware of who His enemies are. You want the Pope to be who you want him to be, and to deliver your message. The Pope is trying to be who God wants him to be, and is trying to deliver Gods' message to a world that is mired in hatred and violence. Put aside politics for just a few minutes and try to remember what Gods' message actually is. It surely is not one that proscribes hatred toward any people. We are all Gods' children, even the Muslims; He created all of us.
To what lies do you refer? That God calls all people to turn away from hatred and revenge? That the God of Abraham calls all people to focus on Him and his promise of salvation? The times we live in are very different from the time of Moses and the time of Jesus Christ. The message is the same, it is simply related in terms of the present time. On the hearts of all people is written the Law of God. The Pope was calling all people to try and direct their attention to that Law, rather than the law of men which so often calls us to hatred and violence. You would prefer the Pope to be more political; I can understand that. The fact is that politics is not going to save Jews, Christians or Muslims. Only God can do that.
I would like to remind all the posters here, and the author, that the Pope is not a politician nor a political leader. He is a religious leader and he spoke as such. It is not his job to address political issues. It is his job to exhort people to find the means and ways to live in peace. The Pope did an excellent job ,in a very hard and dangerous situation, of reminding people of their call and duty as believers in God. It is the regular people who must, in the end, turn away from the violence of Islam, and it is to those people the Pope was speaking.
