A few missing facts about this story: It was a large, illegal aerial mortar purchased from a stand in Toppenish. He was attempting to fire it off in a tube while on his own property, not part of a professional show. The bomb squad investigated because it was reported as an explosion and he had other rounds that were not yet fired.
Darwin Award contender? I don't believe so. He was husband, father, grandfather, successful bussinessman, farmer, rancher who just made a terrible decision that cost him his life.
