The Telegraph has reported that UK-US trade talks have been postponed indefinitely. It would appear that the US is not making us a priority.
I have yet to find someone on this forum (I haven't asked everyone of course) to explain why being in a customs and regulatory union is a bad thing for NI. I think it's because most GBers choose to be ignorant about Ulster
Nobody is asking them to leave the UK. If the DUP had any type of brain, instead of permanently frothing Sammy Wilson as rep, then they could recognise the huge potential for NI being part of an EU market and a UK market at the same time.
Yes I think Arlene and co will be thrown under the bus. If they weren't so cross they'd see the opportunity that the arrangement could bring.
I've seen him perform many times. But I have never seen him perform as poorly as yesterday and today.
I agree. This was his first PMQs. He looked rattled throughout. Resorting to childish insults makes him look weak. Maybe come back with some facts next time Boris?
It was Leo's predecessor Enda Kenny who got the backstop on the agenda EU wide. The idea that he was easier to deal with is a nonsense. Sinn Fein have done terribly in Ireland in recent local and EU elections The idea that Varadkar is beholden to them or fears them shows a real paucity of thought and political acumen
He might also say to his audience - Varadkar? Why isn't he called Murphy like the rest of the Irish. That would endear him to the natives.
What will Boris say? Hello, (ruffle already artfully ruffled hair) the thing about this backstop is that the UK government has agreed to it, I have personally voted for it myself but I don't like it anymore. Cummings says we have to call it undemocratic now even though I voted for it. Help a fellow out, won't you?
Maybe Leo's support will vanish away after a no deal. I can imagine the same for Arlene and Boris. My point is that the Irish support for the backstop is not based on it being a Varadkar or government position. The backstop will be supported whoever is in power.
