I live in Germany. Unlike Mr. Dale, I live what he and other commentators only talk about, and I believe it is not that migrants are 'dehumanised' (they are treated exceedingly well here) but that politicians like Mr. Dale cannot be trusted to be open about their policies that affect the average citizen who does not live in his socio-economic band and have no forum with which to air our beliefs. I teach in Germany. After suddenly placing a refugee centre across from my school to house families (without asking the locals what they thought), we were then told it would comprise 50 unattached young men. Then 75. Before Christmas it opened with 100 men from 8 separate countries, few of whom will receive asylum after 3-5 years. A fortnight ago we were told that the school, which is broke, has to somehow find the money for additional security.
When Merkel and the other politicians says "WE can do it", she means "YOU can do it." YOU can risk being attacked on the high street by people who arrived without any ID. YOU can have your travel to work affected by up to two hours. You can have your medical services collapse by all these men refusing to be treated by female doctors. YOU women can be told by your representatives to simply keep these people "at arm's length" as they will explain to these Merkel's guests that Cologne's upcoming carnival is not an appropriate time to rape our citizens, whom our police are unable to protect. YOU can leave it to your children to have their classes impacted and leave them t clean up the mess WE have today with people who refuse to assimilate. Merkel hasn't kids. She has security everywhere she goes. She and Mr. Dale has a job where her only interaction with her guests if with photo ops and a sinecure for life. The reason for the growth of AfD (reading the headline one would have thought it's the NPD) is that Merkel is acting not as one representing the bet interests of her people, but as the disinterested editor of The Guardian, or head of a charity. "We can do it." What a policy!
