When Iowa selected the top three ethanol supporters as our leading candidates it was in the cards. Who do you think are the heavy tithers for all those preachers?

If we had not let preachers (in Iowa) who have become reliant on the tithes of ethanol decide who the top 3 were going to be, we would not be in this predicament.

What refineries are at half capacity? NO refinery can run at half capacity and be even close to not going under. Different refineries are for different things. Shell is tearing one down right now because it was refining light crude for the main purpose of feedstock for an ethylene unit. Since the wet products separated from wet natural gas from shale production is cheap enough to use instead of naphtha the refinery is not longer viable.

They have enough refining capacity there for it already. It would be cheaper to send the crude in one pipeline than different products in smaller pipeline in batches. Then they have to ship the petroleum coke by rail to dry bulk terminals. Heavy crude is good for making petroleum coke. Different type of oil refineries are for different types of crude oil and different types of products.

Heavy crude is only going a little to Lyondell in Houston. 1/3 of that imported is going to Lake Charles, the rest is going to Corpus Christi, Sweeny, Port Arthur, Norco and Chalmette.

Keystone XL goes to Nederland (NOT HOUSTON) for a reason.

Keystone XL terminates at what used to be Sun Marine Terminals, Nederland TX. There is a small trunk that goes to Houston. The sand has already been removed in Canada. Your info is wrong.

Why do you think that Motiva (old Texaco) Port Arthur was upgraded to 600M bbls per day with an extra large coking unit? You may know tankers but you don't know refining and what type of crude goes to what type of refinery for what type of products.

BTW an old good buddy was transporting gasoline from Norco (LA) to Wilmington (CA) Shell to Shell, back in the late 70's and could not understand the gasoline shortages. What he did not realize is that only CA required unleaded fuel and Shell's two refineries in CA did not have enough capacity (Alkalation units) to make it, so it was shipped through the Panama Canal to CA. When in CA they loaded regular LEADED gasoline to ship back to where it could be sold. Why run a time chartered ship with no cargo on the return voyage, especially U.S. Flag.

BTW, I am expecting that the financing tomorrow, to dismantle a refinery here in the U.S. to ship it overseas. It is small, was designed for 40 API crude and the main pipeline it received crude from was changed to carry Canadian Syncrude. It cannot operate any longer as economically viable.

I've bought and sold refineries and arranged for crude. How about you? I was there when Conoco received it first cargo of heavy crude at it's brand new rude terminal in Clifton Ridge, LA. I was there when both Conoco and Citgo made Lake Charles the largest port for export of petcoke after the switched to heavy crude for their new large petcoke units.

BTW, most of it would end up in Louisiana,2 in Lake Charles and 3 near New Orleans. There is only one smaller refinery in the Houston area which can handle heavy crude.

Dude, it ain't happening this article is written by someone who doesn't know squat about type crude, type of refinery it can go to, logistics, and more.
