Cabinet has been mainly ex-Harris Conservatives for 5 years now. Want in? Consider asking more of your party.

My feeling is he could get a lot better - he's quite amiable and appealing when just talking. It's when in accusatory mode that he loses all his appeal. Still, he would always be too far right for a lot of people, especially those currently planning to vote Orange.

I agree. They're tired of yelling it at the tv.

It was the auditor general who made the judgement, the Ottawa Citizen only reported the fact.

I have confidence that Ms Fraser is fully clued in to what is going on in Ottawa

Harper is nothing, if not good at political strategy.

I think that particular idea is rather defied by the current state of Conservative fortunes.

I really don't believe the other parties (past or present) pursued a one-party state -I believe the Harper Conservatives have a radically different idea of democracy than the other parties and the majority of Canadians.

I don't know what makes you think "most people" prefer anything of the kind.

I believe the slide to NDP happened when Canadians realized the Liberals were not going to get rid of Harper. Or if they did, they wouldn't be different enough. There was a large undecided vote in every poll for all these years that the Cons were supposedly nearing majority. What do you suppose they (I should say we) were waiting for? What has made up their minds now?

This is the result of a country with a majority of centre and left-of-centre people being offered right-centre and way-right-of-centre as the only choices.

In my opinion a Con/Lib coalition will not stand. Both those parties are losing support so it would be a "coalition of losers".

I'm looking forward to the time we can actually discuss things like this without knee-jerk talking points being trotted out:

1) Paul Martin did not agree to buy the jets and we all know this by now.
2) There are other options than this aircraft that will allow us to better equip the entire military better - wouldn't that make sense?

Canadians have the right to know what things will cost and how the government plans to pay for them. We are borrowing all the money we spend at the moment. I don't know how you run your household but when we are in a financial crunch, we watch our pennies and expect the government to do the same.

I think the fact they didn't have something like that as their first policy announcement of the campaign was a major miss for the Liberals. Politically it would have been savvy and It's certainly what we need.

As things are likely to go forward, I expect the Conservative-packed Senate will quash as much as possible anything that doesn't get the party seal of approval.
