CORRECTION - Last month he was FOUND guilty of 1st degree murder. Today at sentencing, through a profanity laced tirade, he was still professing his innocence. After time served (the 3 years they had him in custody while waiting to finally put him on trial), his sentence will be closer to 29 years.
No one seems to be paying attention to the fact that BC residents don't get an exemption anyway. This bill changes NOTHING. I work retail and the only Canadians who currently get a legal exemption are those from Alberta. If merchants have been giving the exemption to BC residents, they are either eating it or falsefying where the customer is coming from. When I am asked to give an exemption, I have to see ID, type the info in to the computer and the customer has to sign that it is correct. I have co-workers that will "fake it" and choose the "Alberta" option (there is no option to choose "British Columbia") which can get them in to trouble if audited.
I wish this had been one of the highlighted stories at the top of the news page instead of the 4 sad news stories. It would be nice to have a positive story be the first thing I see when I come to the site.
The District math curriculum at all levels is a JOKE!!! The K-5 Everyday Math also uses the spiral method - we're going to teach you something today but it's OK if you don't get it because you'll have a chance next month to try it again....ok, on to the next skill. On top of that, it's fiscally irresponsible. Every year the math workbooks have to be replaced for every student. With the exception of K, every grade level goes through two math journals every year. How much money is being wasted on this? What eve happened to copying math problems out of a book on to a piece of paper?
The School Board and M G-J need to held accoutable for her rediculous salary. The Board shouldn't be giving her raises and she shouldn't be accepting them! Time to put your votes in to action. The board needs to be changed!!!
It would have been nice if they had mentioned HOW Gino Simone got his concussion or the fact that Hawaii was penalized 3 times for unsportsmanlike conduct - 2 late hits out of bounds (that were flagrant) and the helmet hit that put Gino out. I am not saying that these hits made the difference, but it shows a serious lack of gamesmanship. Not to mention the Hawaii fans booing the Cougs as they left the field at halftime even though their team was up 35-6. It has been a while since I've seen such a lack of class in a team or its fans.
This is the City's problem to fix, not the insurance company's. The main was on city property and is maintained by the city. An insurance company cannot be expected to cover damage caused by something that is outside the property line. As for paying depreciated value, that is all an insurance policy would have paid. People need to read their policies - unless you have purchased specific replacement coverage, you will only get depreciated value. The error that the insurance companies made was bringing up the word "flood." If they stuck to "it's the city's problem" they wouldn't be getting as much flack.
One of the major issues is that the Federal government makes laws (I.D.E.A.), says it will help pay and then leaves the burden to the states. When IDEA was first passed, the feds were supposed to pay 40% of the costs. This has never happened - averages 18% - and the unfunded portion has cost state education programs $300 billion since 1975. If the feds would start putting money behind their mandates, more money would be available to help students in the best possible way. Resources are spread so thin right now that I can see why they may be asking these students to come to the therapy.
My question to the parents would be, if the public schools aren't meeting your needs so you feel the need to send your child to private school (religious or not), why would you trust them to meet the therapeutic needs? Should the already stretched resources be stretched even further (having to hire additional staff or take resources away from the public schools) to meet the needs of a private school student?
It's a shame that this is marring such a wonderful event. As more of a "feel good" event than anything, I often wondered why they would bother with an elite group. I was there participating in the half-marathon distance and will never be a threat to either of these women ;-)
Ohhh, I miss Ferdinand's!!! Drinking Peanut Butter milkshakes during long lectures at Fulmer Hall....oh the memories.
