I haven't commented all that often, but have been reading with Joy for the past three years.

I owe some folks some very belated Toast post and a Toast mix...so I guess my own procrastination is one way to keep the community alive!

Thanks all! It's been fun!

I think that is what upset me because I did email my reps and gun violence is something I've continued to speak out against, but I just needed some freaking space. Maybe it felt a little man-splainy. And I'm a queer woman and he's a straight man and sometimes being an ally means shutting up every now and then.

I guess in the end it's not so much about me being wrong or right but I needed to check in as I'm feeling especially tender.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks. I think you're right and the tenderness I'm feeling is making me more upset/angry than I might normally be.

I'm feeling completely overwhelmed by this tragedy...just heartbroken.

I tried to express this sentiment and that I felt there were no useful words on facebook and one of my guy friends decided to comment that "No" there were lots of useful words and I need to call my reps, etc. I responded that yes I know there is action to take and I have done so, but I hadn't had adequate words to express my grief the night before. He then responded again that it was our collective responsibility or something to make these resources known.

I'm really frustrated by this interaction, but maybe I'm in the wrong.

I just feel like I have no perspective right now.

I love so many Pitbull songs with my whole heart. I can't explain it but they just give me so much joy. "Timber" is a special favorite.

I know it's so dorky, but for me it's Elton John. Also Joni Mitchell....and many many many years from now Carole King.

I've got a great fondness for Pope McCorkle III, but Howdy Goudey is definitely a close second.

Oh Paula Cole! "This Fire" is still on frequent rotation in my car. I think I got it second hand a few years after it came out. It was the first time I remember hearing real emotion come through music like that. So Angry. So powerful.

Lighthousekeeping by Jeanette Winterson. There was also a span of about 4 years when I read The Red Tent every fall.

Just wanted to join you in the hatred of this movie...I, unfortunately, sat through the whole thing.
