At one time the term conservative had meaning for me and was the way I not only described myself politically but how I lived my life. That label no longer suits me. Conservatism today, at least as I observe it, is the realm of a political party, which has made a mockery of the philosophy. Keep in mind that whatever label is attributed to me should be because of the way I live my life and not some ideology to which I adhere.
It is my belief that people should be free up to the edge of anarchy. In other words everyone should obey Constitutional laws and work very hard to repeal laws that aren't. That's my definition of Libertarian and, as I read and understand it, what is expressed in the Declaration of Independence as the way mankind is created. It is the nature of human beings to be free.
Living life as close to total freedom as one can have and still live in a civilized society carriers with it a burden. That burden is accepting total responsibility for oneself. That requires renouncing victimhood. Living the life of a victim is the least free one can be because of the dependency required.

It was reported yesterday that a high ranking Syrian official said, after Obama's speech with Joe Biden in tow, that Obama blinked. That seems to shore up a sense of general disdain for this President in the community of nations. He's not taken seriously. Even our staunch ally England's Parliament said no, we're not supporting Obama's desire to attack Syria, which seems to be viewed by many as a childish response to not being taken seriously on his "Red Line" statement of a year ago. Obama's vaunted teleprompter magic seems to be failing him this time and he is having to go to Congress with his tail between his legs and try to, somehow, make it look like he's a strong, decisive leader and didn't really step in it.
What is interesting to me to observe is that his base at home supports four plus years of incompetence no matter what he does or is incapable of doing, even in the face of the myriad scandals and unveiled thuggery that has plagued his tenure in office. The rest of the world sees him in the reality of his administration, which ineffective and impotent .
The "progressives," and to a lesser degree the Republicans, have spent the last fifty years buying votes at home and trying to win loyalty abroad with foreign aid. Those that have pocketed billions in aid are thumbing their nose at us. Obama has reaped what he sowed in his "apology tour" of four plus years ago. He wanted a weaker America, he's gotten it and it's chomping on his backside.
It also seems to me that his star is showing tarnish at home despite the massive growth in welfare. Oh, those that ignorantly worship at the welfare altar will continue to follow him blindly. But I have hopes for the next two election cycles because some in the press and even some in his party are being openly critical of him for the first time. Obama is dazed and confused now and we have an opening to take back our country....if conservatives and Republicans don't bungle it.

I just saw President Obama on TV (isn't he always?) delivering a patriotic, Independence Day message. After over four years of observing this man, and seeing his actions demonstrate his true feelings about America, it seemed wrong for him to metaphorically wrap himself in the flag, as he did. His hypocrisy knows no bounds.

As to what should be done with him, I think he needs to be prosecuted. Not that our thuggish government's activities should not be given the light of day, it's just how he went about it. If his motiviation had been pure, he could have gone to any one of several congressional oversight committees and "blown the whistle" without giving away secrets. As politiciszed as the ship of fools in our legislature is, and as much as they want ammunition to use on the other party, he would have received a hero's welcome.

America owes a debt of gratitude to all who serve and all who have served and especailly to those families whose loved ones have made the ultimate sacrifice. We are a free nation because of those who fought and died for our liberty. We should also recognize that virtually every country on earth that enjoys freedom is free today by the blood of young American men and women. No other nation or people have sacrificed as much for the liberty of mankind.
Thank You!

I am a Southern patriot, a conservative and a NRA member but I found that comments attributed to new NRA President,, Jim Porter, to be disturbing and, in my opinion, damaging to the Conservative Cause as well as our fight to preserve our Second Amendment rights.
Reportedly, he referred to President Obama as a "fake president" and Eric Holder as"rabidly unamerican". It is reported that Porter went on to refer to the Civil War as the "war of northern aggression", which is the way I've heard that conflict referred to all my life.
Most anyone that's read my posts on this site understands that I think President Obama is a terrible president and that his justice department, run by Holder, only serves as the enforcer for Obama's political agenda. This justice department cares not for justice at all. I've also put forth the notion that we need to tear down the walls that label us conservative and liberal because we ought to be about saving our nation, not dividing it as Obama has done.
I think it's long past time for us to eliminate destructive rhetoric because it only gives the Chris Matthews of the world t the fuel they need to characterize conservatives as far right, bible thumping, gun toting radicals, which they do all the time. A few people like Mr. Porter play into their narrative. What's next, Klan talk?
If you agree, I urge you to write the NRA and complain as I have. The left has been the purveyor of hate talk and racism and we don't need to join them in that cesspool.

Huckabee did a segment last night on a German couple with six children that emigrated to the US, so they could home school their children. Apparently, in Germany home schooling is forbidden and anyone doing it can be fined and even have their children taken away from them. This couple has a deep Christian faith and felt that what was being taught to their children in German schools went against their faith. They sought and we granted assylum in the US.
You will not be surprised to lean that Obama's Justice Department, a la Eric Holder, is attempting to deport the couple on the grounds that German law as it regards home schooling does not warrant assylum. This is another blatant political gambit on the part of the administration to support the teacher's unions, who are large contributors to Democrat campaigns. It is also part of the ongoing disregard this administration has for our Constitution. Freedom of Religion, which this is at the end of the day, is one of our most fundamental rights.
The hearing is coming up soon and the hope this couple has is to petition the Whitehouse for intervention. These petitions require 100,000 signatures before they are actied on. As of last night when my wife and I signed it, they still needed over thirty thousand signatures (by April 14th)
So I'm asking that you please sign the petition and pass this along to everyone you know and ask them to sign it as well.

Thank you

It's been awhile since I've posted and I see a lot of new names - welcome. The reason I've been absent is that I've felt powerless because when I post here, I am writing to like minded folks....preaching to the choir if you will. I don't often feel overwhelmed but the enormity of the task of reversing the course of America made me feel that way. I could not come up with a single idea of where or how I could make a difference. When I look at the posts here I suspect that many of you feel the same way. Then an idea struck me that I want to run by you to see who may be interested.
The idea is this: Instead of trying to create a new party or movement, why not reform the Republican Party through a grass roots effort. The national structure is in place and the party just needs a good cleansing to get it back to its principles. The Republican Party of today, except for a few talking points made in speeches, is no different from the Democrat Party. They both want to be reelected for life so they can amass power and wealth. Damn doing what is in the best interest of the country. Not what the Founders had in mind at all.
We would not have to start a movement from scractch, just retake the one that's in place. I suspect if you go on any conservative site you will find folks just like us - frustrated and not seeing a clear path to action. The idea is to get the word out and start people thinking about taking action towards reclaiming the Republican Party.
How that would work is for everyone to work in their districts to find people that would go to Washington and actually do the work of the people and help get them elected. It's a radical idea these days but the people we would look for would be those would would govern with the consent of the governed. We would be vigilant and vote them out of office the minute they joined the status quo club.
We would start by reaching out to as many other conservative groups as we could identify and open a dialogue with them. I suspect we will find a lot of folks doing the same things we do day in and day out, which is writing to each about about things we are in agreement with anyway and wishing we could take some action that would make a difference.
I found out that a few other people on this site have the same idea so there seems to be a few of us who have arrived at the same place at the same time.
Please comment.

As we enjoy our Thanksgiving meal today with family and friends, let us not forget to give thanks for the young men and women voluntarily put themselves in harm's way to make it so we can be free to celebrate this day. Let us also remember the families of those that have fallen in the cause of freedom and to protect our liberty.
