I can't stop, not when It's something I believe worthwhile. If DIY truly does read the blog and takes into account the bloggers feelings/ideas then maybe our voices will be heard. We had a very unique home building program - none like it around. Then slowly DIY changes the concept. I really would love to know Why!! What was wrong with the original BC? other than the HOA part. Do a reno if you must but do a cabin reno...a log cabin reno would be best.
(continued)... This year it just seems that so many new bloggers have come over from HGTV's dream home and that's what they want - bigger, more expensive. I don't understand DIY's thinking on this as there is a Dream Home, there is a Green Home and it was super that there was a log cabin. That has now all but dissappeared. Hey if they want reno's fine...I'm sure there are log cabins screaming for a reno, a nice comfortable, affordable cabin in the mountains somewhere. Any more cabinistic folks out there that would love to see the BC go back to being the BC?
HI Don, yes I do keep up with a few but Rob S has dissappeared. He, much like Clive and yourself, was a wealth of information. Have you gone back to see the first few BC's? The 07 cabin is my favorite, lots of local artists contributed to that home. Plus the host blogged with us. Amy was always right there answering questions and so on. The log cabin is what brought many of us together and I am lucky to say that many of those bloggers are now friends. The 08 cabin was a beautiful location but way too big and unaffordable. The 09 by defination was a cabin but not log and of course BC10 was the famous ranch reno. What the BC10 got right was the land and no HOA's. ... (continued)
I came back to see what was going on and regret doing so. Blog Cabin was not suppose to be HGVT's Dream Home. Blog Cabin was not Bigger, Better, More Expensive. Blog Cabin was a comfortable, affordable, rustic, vacation cabin. I absolutly Hate, Hate, Hate what it is turning into. I have no problem with reno's of old homes BUT call it what it is DIY Reno. This is NOT BLOG CABIN!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Bring back the Blog Cabin. So many of us rustic cabin lovers are fading fast...I miss Helen M., Rob S., Carrie, LilB....so many true cabin people.
Cheryl, Jeannie contacted me asking about my previous post. Just wanted to be clear on that. What I said had nothing to do with what you said. I have just lost interest. In 2007 when the BC started it was fun blogging and building a small, afordble log cabin. And then using local craft persons for decorating it - the carved mantle and support post, the unique front porch railing, the twins, Amy blogging with us. The 2008 BC was a great location but way too big. Then 2009 and SuzanWV, what a nightmare that was, lost some long time bloggers over that one. Last year was not a cabin but the location and land were what we had been asking for. This year it seems like the BC is turning into HGTV's Dream Home reno style. I just really miss the original concept of the BC. I miss Rob S, Helen, Mary to name a few. I know 09 was trying and the reno sealed the deal. I, and I think there may be more, just want the original concept of BC back. No "bait fridge, ice makers or Koi Ponds". Just an affordable rustic cabin.
And with that - Good Bye Blog!!! Will be back when DIY decides to go back to the original concept of a small, afordable cabin.
Sorry Cheryl - bad choice of wording. As I said, do not want a wrap-around or large front porch...I was just responding to Mountain House and trying to make a point. There were a lot of posts about a wrap-around and of those most of the posters wanted a wrap-around porch...just not all/many/(most) bloggers.
Clive, personally I do not want a wrap-around or large porch (or front door with glass in it) at the front of the house. I was just commenting to Mountain Home on that subject. I totally agree with you on this - it would just be wasted space - the view is in the back.
Hey Lil good to hear from you. Your Lil' Cabin in the mountains sounds wonderful. I so wish DIY would go back to the original concept next year and build a log cabin (AND have the host blog with us the way Amy did)!!
I really don't understand why everyone on this here Blog doesn't think the way I do. :-) It sure would make life a lot easier. Now don't you go and over do, be sure to take time and "smell the roses".
The wrap-around pourch has had the "go around" so to speak with most wanting it, or at the very least a porch the same length at the front of the home. As for a lake front home? The Chesapeake Peak Bay sure does make a really big lake.
I do agree with you on the lighter colors for the home. It seems, if only in the mind, to reflect the sun in the summer thereby keeping the home cooler.
