I LOVED Smokey and the bandit. My Dad took me to a theater in Dubuque when I was a youngster. That song always brings a smile to my face . . . gotta run Mike, I am off to YouTube.

I know, I know. That doesn't mean I have to like it. Especially a program like Michigan - they don't need to do this. Indiana somewhat understandable, but still not right.

Please remind me again what the purpose of college sports is. Can we please stop blurring the line between college and pro?

As I have said many times, I know I am living in the past. But at what point does college sports get too big for its britches? When does this stop?

(Now get off my lawn.)

I know bobble heads don't normally look much like their subject, but these are terrible. No resemblance whatsoever.

Very well put. I have been iffy on whether they should push Penn St. west, but I think I am coming around. Your points are helping convince me that is the way to go. But I wonder how PSU feels about that?

LOL on Brian's e-mail. Very well done.

I too am jaded on where college athletics are (and have been) headed. Don't we already have pro leagues for all this non$en$e?

I would think Iowa would have LOVED Mizzou in the B10 and it would be foolish to "veto" it. A very close natural rivalry. A decent school that would have been so "convenient" to have so close by.

I agree Mike, they can't do a strictly East-West divisional line up. There will be no parity there. They are going to have to get creative and not base it on geography.

I do disagree with you that it is a "good" thing that - "Adding Nebraska and helping the Big 12 along with its breakup should open the door for an even better bowl lineup". I don't like to see the break up of the B12 and the emergence of the superconferences.

This is not corporate America. This is college sports. Since when is the purpose of colleges and universities to maximize profits? I know, I know - I am desperately living in the past. Is that wrong?

I am an Iowa alum. I like the status quo. I like that we play Minnesota for a pig every year. I like that there are so many other traditions in college sports. Stanford - Cal is classic. There are so many more, and they are not going to disappear. But these traditions are going to fade over time.

Maybe not even in my lifetime. But this is not unlike the disappearance of Mom & Pop shops in the business world.

Maybe I am being too dramatic. But I don't enjoy the direction this is going.

I am an alum and lifelong Iowa fan. I DO NOT want ISU to become irrelevant. I always loved that our little state had programs in two elite conferences. And ISUs success against us made it a rivalry no doubt. It saddens me to see old traditions, rivalries, and the regionalism of college sports kicked to the curb. I am an Iowa fan and Big Ten fan, but the fact that the Big Ten is "harvesting" the fruits of their power does not please me.

There are already plenty of pro sports to watch. I did not know that the purpose of colleges and universities was to generate profits. But I do know that this revenue generation has helped the UI. We can pay a very, very competent football coach top dollar.

But I think we are headed in the wrong direction. 20 years from now I wonder what this is all going to look like.

Off my soapbox. You kids can now get off my yard!!
