I've collected things my entire life. I saw that amiibo would appeal to three different types of collectors right off the bat: people who want to collect them for gaming, people who want to collect them as toys, and people who are eager to get characters that are rarely/never represented in physical merchandise. In addition to this, there are plenty of people in the 1st and 3rd categories that would purchase multiples in order to play with one while keeping another sealed, and/or customization. They weren't going to be Skylanders, which were by and large completely new characters (and even then there are plenty of rarities that can be sold for $100+), and they weren't going to be Disney Infinity, which nearly all Disney IPs have been merched to death. I saw what was going to happen with them as soon as they unveiled the first batch. I knew all the main characters would be easy to get, with the rarities being...well...rare, and likely heavily scalped, and very expensive on the secondary market.
"Some figures are sold out and are being sold at online auctions at premium prices – something which none of us had predicted."
Are you kidding me? I saw this a mile away as soon as it was announced, which is why I preordered Wii Fit Trainer and Villager the second I could. Couldn't preorder Marth, but I lucked out and found him on the shelf.
I'm impressed they were able to stuff this game onto a 3DS cart and make it look this good.
I'm been using nowinstock.com for amiibo, and they send alerts right to my phone. Helped me land a Sheik amiibo yesterday, and a Pit amiibo last month :-D
God, I love Yacht Club Games!
Games have been doing 60fps since the NES days, and suddenly it's too hard on brand spanking new hardware? What does that even say about this industry?
There's a big difference between feminists like you who want true equality, and common sense changes, and someone like Sarkeesian and her army of drones who advocate for female supremacy while doing their damndest to turn "Man" into a slur. My views align practically 100% with the type of feminist you see to take pride in being, but what feminism has seemingly become (at least the LOUDEST feminists) has absolutely turned me, and now most of the population, completely off to it.
I didn't disregard your opinion. I said your argument was weak, and it is. I also provided link with all the information you could want. I don't give a damn what you believe, because your belief is irrelevant in the face of the evidence and results. You may "believe" nothing's been accomplished, and meanwhile I'll simply believe (rightfully so) that you're willfully ignorant, uneducated, and misinformed about the subject.
"Media has always done it, so it's cool." Sorry, that argument's not going to fly.
"You haven't changed anything!" I disagree. A number of new sites have cropped up or been boosted in our wake (I'm looking at you, nichegamer and techraptor), and a number of major sites (such as IGN, TheEscapist, and Kotaku as a few examples) have changed their ethics policies or made them public. We aren't done. Gamergate is a train with no brakes full of people who are sick of the nonsense. I'll give you a single link with a ridiculous amount of information that you'll find useful. I'd also recommend hitting the Wiki attached to it:
