The entire argument above is a lovely example for the difficulties in gameplay when fluff starts leaking in.

I realize it seems odd to have these superadvanced necrons teleporting onto the battlefield in the background stories, but not having rules reflect this in gameplay. However, the game is also about maintaining balance. If we are to believe all the background, three space marines could massacre entire IG companies. Something we would not like to see happen in the game.

Personally, I love the warhammer 40k background, but when playing the game, me and my friends stick to the rules as writen. This may suck at times, but we can only really rely on what GW has put on paper (and perhaps FAQed). Interpretation from secondary sources (fluff) leads to holy wars ;)

Right, makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

I noticed the gants in a few of the pics are not in coherency after shooting, is that legal?
If not, it would impact the way models are removed I guess.

I agree with you that plasma seems to be more effective than melta in taking out light armor. Especcially in Tac Squads and the like...
*Disclaimer: I have not done the proper math yet, but my first calculations point toward the plasmagun being more effective against light armor at the 12" range.*

However, Land raiders, Russes and Battle Wagons became harder to kill... Plasma cannot reliably hurt those vehicles (cannot touch a LR at all, marginal effectiveness against a Russ and maybe some against a BW). Furthermore, the Russes suffer less from a one guns syndrome (randomized Weapon Destroyed! remember?). So believe that melta will still play and important role in taking out the super heavies.

Seems like you are on a plan. I think it will be another big leap forward for 3++.

I totally agree with you on the list review e-mails. Usually I just skip over them as they are often quite similar and the core of 3++ readers can provide excellent feedback. Post those thing on the forum and let the blog be about in depth tacticas, cool conversions and proper painting. It is the high quality content that keeps me coming back here.

If I want rants and lists with the occasional stub of a tactics article, I'll go to YTTH
if I want rumors, some nice pics and a good laugh I'll visit BOLS,
and if I want to actually learn more about how to play 40k I stop here...

Good article! This is why I love the back-to-basics series. Gems like these keep me coming back to 3++.
Stuff like this is so amazingly important, yet as a new player I would not have figured it out by myself.
MOAR PLZ!!1!

I am not sold on the AutoLas Pred and HF-razorback combo... It seems to me that you are going to be self-blocking your fire lanes early on in the game. Do you expect it to be less of an issue at 1500 points? Or have you playtested the list and found a way to cope with this issue?

Good luck with the painting!

Yeah. Combat squad, then hide the ML marines in cover, and drive the rhino w/ meltagun and combi-melta up midfield. Cheap way to get some extra long range fire support, which the list is lacking.

Hehe, I think so.

Seriously though, good work Kirby! Seems like it is going to be a wonderful event. Unfortunately, a 24 hour flight to attend 3++ con is a bit too much for me...
