I agree. Throwing them in jail is simply a time out - granted, not the best time-out, but still, they are not really getting punished enough for doing something so stupid and immature.
This is like taking the bullets away from a person who shoots people. More bullets can be found in 10 minutes. How can they not do more?
Yup. A mistake. But you know what, if this is the WORST thing going on in South Bend, then life is good. Fix it and move on......not the end of the world.
Amazing what adrenaline and one bad decision can do for you. Senseless is the perfect description for this.
This is unfortunate on so many different levels. However, Mr. Purchase needs to be held accountable and responsible for his actions.
GREAT comment. Anything "fully engulfed in flames" would take just a bit longer than 10 minutes to extinguish. That's the difference between the media and those with at least a half ounce of knowledge of fire science.
Lots of comments about the officer's "leave without pay" situation. He's on leave without pay not because he's a city/government employee, but because he's part of a UNION. And getting him terminated, for anything, is never an easy thing because of the appeal and arbitration setups in the UNION contract. Unions used to have their place in society to protect workers...but that ship has sailed and now they are way out of line. In many respects, the city and PD's hands are tied...this guy is protected 10x over.
...you know, a Tornado Warning is a problem regardless of ANYTHING ELSE GOING ON! I don't think Power Restoration should be the main headline of what the Tornado Warning effects. How about insuring that people are safe, etc.?????? What a weird headline. Maybe you should devote your time to make sure Berrien County is sounding their sirens to warn their people.
Very well done story about a truly strong and courageous family. All the best to the family impacted by such a horrible disease...
...and just found a national story on this via msnbc.com. mission accomplished for this lady.
