I just reread all the Tamir and Nightrunner books in chronological order earlier this year. It was interesting to reread them all in one go since I had reread some more than others and some not at all and they were written over a pretty long span of time. I capped it by finally reading the last one, Shards of Time, which I quite enjoyed. I find I still don't like Shadows Return and The White Road very much, but I enjoy the hell out the others. There's some really interesting body dysmorphia/trans implications stuff in the Tamir books that I just can't decide how I feel about, and also some interesting racial implications that really only became apparent in Shards of Time.

Also, wizards, necromancy, hot boys in love with each other, queens regnant, the end!

Oh good! I figured you must have considering your list! I hadn't heard she has a new book coming - will have to look it up!

Sooooo...have you read Connie Willis' time traveling historians of Oxford books? Because I think To Say Nothing of the Dog and Blackout/All Clear might really appeal to you. Although you should probably start with Doomsday Book for the background. (which is also great, by the way)

This is exactly how I felt about it. I was happy she didn't do another space-adventure-driven one because Cryoburn was sort of that and it...didn't really work for me? It felt like Miles had just outgrown the kind of plot he was stuck in. I mean, I think the book was aware of that too on some level, but...yeah, at this point basically all the main characters are level 20 and what else can we do with them?

ETA that's why Gentleman Jole worked for me even though it was really different - because it was really different. I greatly enjoyed it!

Me too! When I have a lot of cooking or cleaning to do, I put on his Reads videos and get so much done! (Also super super excited for Monstrous Regiment!)

This is beautiful. I cried all the way through. I have been lifting on and off for 14 years and I love it so much and your experiences are part of why - the quiet space with the bar, the constant challenge, "it never gets easier, you just get stronger." So moving.

A-yup, way less bouncing around than running/jogging! I am pretty busty and chafe something fierce in the thigh region, and lifting is definitely more comfortable than running for those issues.

"I enjoy taking up space now."

Me too! Among other things, I am way more comfortable in sleeveless shirts now - oh, does this look like flab to you? These are gunz that can bench press 125lbs.! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

I actually gained 10 lbs. the first year I lifted - I had never done a strength sport so I was laying on muscle like nobody's business! I continue to gain weight, and continue to gain strength, so who cares?!?

lol this is exactly what I think when I have to take a break! I've been lifting on and off for 14 years now. After my first pregnancy (didn't lift for over a year) I was really bummed at having lost all that strength, but I actually made big gains when I got back to the gym and so quickly! Subsequent pregnancies and injuries I have been recontextualizing as "fun opportunities to make big gains when I can get back! Maybe I can break my bench plateau this time!"
