Ah, this will be missed. There is no place for this, or monks creating art, anywhere else on the Tubes.

I appreciate this insider's view. As a white man who grew up in an incredibly homogeneous part of the country, who married a first-generation ABC, I have no idea how I am going to broach this topic with my (now very young) kids. Nor do I know whether I should wait until something ugly happens to them in the outside world to raise the topic, or whether I need to broach it first and prepare them for how horrible and judgmental people can be. I am trying to gather as many perspectives as I can so I can at least try to make sense of it when my kids have to deal with it.

You should have seen me huddled over my vaporizer, wheezing and miserable this morning. I had to avert my eyes from my reflection in the cold medicine bottle.

I think I actually saw this, in an actual movie theater, but had mercifully suppressed the memory. Until now.

Nope. In a sense, government work is the reverse of the private sector. In the private sector, the lower down the workplace ladder you are, the worse your job is; the accountant is treated better than the truck driver, the lawyer is treated better than the mail clerk. But in the government, it's the other way around. This is because the government is seemingly incapable of anything other than a one-size-fits-all approach to its employees, and so treats everyone as if he/she worked a window at the DMV all day.

"The job where salaried employees weren't paid for overtime but still had to sign in and out every day. "

IOW, every government job.

And why is 1923 the cutoff point? Because in 1923, Walt Disney made his first successful animated short "Alice's Wonderland."

Every amendment to the copyright law since then has made the term of a copyright longer and longer and longer. The Constitutional mandate of a "limited term" for copyright protection actually means "as long as media corporations desire." I expect that any new copyright law will similarly lengthen the term of copyrights such that Mickey Mouse never enters public domain. (Notwithstanding the fact that Disney has itself made a lot of money out of public domain works, including those of Robert Louis Stevenson and Jules Verne).

Read what Ernie Hudson had to say about the difference between the original Winston Zeddimore character and what made it on film. Pretty sad. http://www.ew.com/article/2014/11/05/ghostbusters...

"John Lennon I have been sent from the future and you must break up the Beatles to prevent the formation of a computer which will murder us all."

I'm pretty sure that IS a single word in German.
