My beef with anyone in the political arena - Right or Left or Middle - is the inability to take responsibility for their screw-ups. I, like most people, do not hold malice in my heart for any person - even if they cut me off in traffic. My question to you is why do you have a large, Democratic (see liberal) chip on your shoulder? I don't care what party affiliation you hold. That is not the measure of a person. You can make your point, as your other 140 posts adequately tell me, without lowering your own standards of "de-lousing."

For those who are still having trouble with the type of governance that our country was founded on, it is -not- a Democracy. It is a Republic. Our elected officials do not hear what the people have to say. They do listen, but the message gets lost as they try to figure out how best to make every situation a win for them and a loss for the other side. Unfortunately, the people lose either way.

@chuckflynn - You are correct when you state that Republicans were corrupt. That is neither a failure on their part nor a success on the Democrats part, for the Democrats were corrupt, as well. Two wrongs do not a right make, yes? There are examples of impropriety on both sides of the political spectrum. No one holds a patent on screwing up.

By the way, $31 an hour is more than a Florida public school teacher, with a Bachelor's degree and 10 years of service, makes per hour ($28.78 in Okaloosa County.) And that is a Union wage. Remember that the next time you visit your child's classroom for an Open House Night. Ask my wife what she thinks of Union's and you'll have a different understanding of how Union's work.

And please don't respond with disparaging remarks re: the difference between Construction and Teaching.

Let me know what you think of the deal when your company sends out a memo telling all employees - union and non-union - that they can no longer compete in the current marketplace and are closing up shop in the U.S. and opening up a new operation in Mexico (or elsewhere.)

That is the end game of the Card Check legislation. Union bosses - who never once turned down a payraise - are the cause of many good U.S. businesses closing. It is quite simple to "help" any business that is not paying a fair wage wise up. It is called publicity. Any worker with a brain would not work for a company that did not pay their workers properly. If Union workers cannot see that their Union leaders are just as greedy as the next guy, then that is their own fault. How much is enough?

What is the FairTax plan?
The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment. This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25/S 1025) abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax -- administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities. The IRS is disbanded and defunded. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

Say what you mean and mean what you say. We say a lot of stuff here on this comment page, but who actually lives their life according to Principles and Values? I have my problems, just as you do. We expect our elected officials to live by a standard that we ourselves don't live by. Hard to expect different results than what we get, isn't it?

That certainly doesn't mean we don't try hard to do the right thing and live our lives without going out and taking what doesn't belong to us. Our government has been doing just the opposite for years. They just get blatantly more arrogant about their 'right' to do so.

Patriotism has nothing to do with politics.

The # of Democrats that have questions about what the President is doing is growing. Also, many American's (like yourself) have issues with the agenda that Obama's administration is rushing through Congress. Does that make us all un-patriotic?

Most, if not all, politicians will wave flags and such when it suits them. The 'right', as you speak of them, do not hold the patent on hypocrisy. Not agreeing with President Obama's economic policies has zero to do with patriotism just as disagreeing with President Bush.s Iraq policy has zero to do with patriotism. It has to do (for politicians, anyway) with getting re-elected. Elections have zero to do with patriotism, also. All of the above are due to a lack of Principles and Values. Not one politician - that I know of - leads by example.

What does everyone think about the Fair Tax? How about any other options that would help our country survive the current economic storm? Or is the solution to simply take more from the rich because they have it to give?

One last thought - if one person contributes to society more than another person, why should they then be punished upon their death by a tax that is not imposed on a person that did not contribute to the same society as much?

(continued)

An additional question I'd like to raise are the implementation of other solutions for revenue generation for the operation of the government. I believe that the current system curtails the incentive to engage in growth-enhancing economic activities. Why isn't our government studying alternative options for revenue generation? Charles Kettering once said, "If you have always done it that way, it is problably wrong." Granted, that is a highly generalized view in respect to taxation, but I believe anyone can see my point regardless. I can also point out that you cannot mistake motion for action, also. Change for the sake of change is not a sensible option, either. Please look to the recent changes that our government has rushed through the legislative process. Stunning how huge sums of money and large policy changes have been thrust upon the American population with very little study or oversight. I digress...
