357ben posted a really great youtube video. It's worth reposting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ24YWOTVrs
If you think our country is too big and too armed for this to happen to us, well look at what b.o. has done in less than 100 days. His stupidity is astounding... and what the media and some of the population is buying into is even worse.
This country needs to really take notice of what's going on.

richwithvalues: You are partially right. Actually assault weapons are only used in 1% of "violent" crimes in this country, so it brings the pertentage down even more if you include ALL crimes. To the one you were replying to, here's more info to stand prepared. Criminal choice of weapon is a handgun, but some prefer the knife as it reduces their sentence if/when caught.

I just wanted to vent about the AIG bonuses. These guys brought millions, if not billions of dollars into the company and part of their contract stated they were to be given a certain percentage of that. The "bailout" clearly defined that the salaries in their entirety, were going to be a part of that. Now the media screams injustice and the uneducated blindly follow suit. Think about this though, if the government can take away, or tax their bonuses to kingdom come, what's to say they can't tax yours? No matter how small. Remember that taking away capitalism is taking away freedom. Take away one and any number of the rest are in jeopardy. Freedom of speech is in jeopardy hiding behind the "innocent" titles, gun rights are in jeopardy hiding behind "assault-style" weapon bans and new "regulations". Taxing the wealthy and small businesses is a front for wealth re-distribution. Come on America ~ WAKE UP!!! Hard earned money is worth keeping, even if it's not yours! Greed is not becoming of a patriot.

If there are people who want to freely give up their weapons, that's their choice, but I obtained mine legally and if someone forcibly want to take them from me, they will be in for a rude awakening. Regulating the hell out of my gun rights is not what I voted for. The views of my congressmen are not my views. Last year, we were warned about B.O.'s agenda for the 2nd Amendment. Forcing his views on the nation; sounds like steps toward dictatorship to me:
1. Ban the use of firearms for home defense.
2. Pass Federal laws eliminating your Right-to-Carry.
3. Ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.
4. Close down 90% of the gun shops in the U.S.
5. Ban rifle ammo commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.
6. Increase Federal taxes on guns and ammunition by 500%.
7. Restore voting rights for 5 million criminals including those who have been convicted of using a gun to commit a violent crime.
8. Expand the Clinton semi-auto ban to include millions more firearms.
9. Mandate a government-issued license to purchase a firearm.
10. Appoint judges to the U.S. Supreme Court and Federal judiciary who share his views on the 2nd Amendment.

JoeFriday: "I pulled up some interesting facts from the A.T.F & F.B.I there were 28,663 murders in the U.S. in 2008 out of 28,663 murders only 9,369 were commited firearm. There were 56,446 death due to Drunk Driving in 2008..."

Thanks JoeFriday ~ It would be interesting to know how many of those 9,369 were committed by criminals (they never release THOSE statistics). How many could have been prevented if the victim had been armed/protected.

cont'd Did you see the circulating email about all this? “Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota…” Accredited Universities of Minnesota: Hemline University is not listed. “Professor” Olsen quotes Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburg to say that “nations progress through the following sequence: bondage to spiritual faith, faith to great courage, courage to liberty, liberty to abundance, abundance to complacency, complacency to apathy, apathy to dependence, dependence back into bondage.” I don’t know about you, but I prefer to think we’re as great a people as the Egyptians were and have the determination, fight and winning spirit to take back this country and make it great again! See the email and commentary in it's entirety at http://jacks-perspective.blogspot.com/2008/06/int... - I can't take credit for the fine research this person did.

I have always heard about this democracy countdown. A democracy is always temporary in nature; it cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy and a republic are not the same. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic…” (Note: D.C. is not part of the United States and they adhere to their own Constitution – probably why Obama didn’t put his hand to his heart during the playing of our national anthem.) The majority always votes for the one who promises the most benefits with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose financial policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilization has been about 200 years. (Hmmm, the British, Rome and Israel: 700 yrs, Japan and China: 800, Egypt: 2000)

InGodWeTrust: Thank you!
During the American founding era, William Blackstone and Samuel Adams interpreted the right to bear arms as a natural right of resistance and self-preservation; to maintain the primary rights of personal security, personal liberty and private property... when the sanctions of society and laws are found insufficient to restrain the violence of oppression. Adams was clear that these rights were not purely military, writing that, "every one knows that the exercise of military power is forever dangerous to civil rights; and we have had recent instances of violences that have been offered to private subjects."

An armed person is a citizen, an unarmed person is a subject.

Jack: "The country has moved on from your rural politics."

I beg to differ. In the end, the only statistic that matters in the 2nd Amendment discussions is that at least 60 million (and perhaps over 100 million) people were murdered by their own governments during the 20th century. The Constitution is not for the moment - it is for the ages. While it should be utilized as a last resort (and history shows that America does use it as a last resort) the people's right to alter or abolish a despotic government is fundamental to their sovereignty. The means to exercise that right should not be entrusted to an exclusive political class, or military department, any more than the freedom of speech should be entrusted only to the media or government spokespersons.

Jack: "I'm an atheist. Can I be included in you kum-bi-yah party? Though not."

Back in the days of our forefathers, any respected man was an armed man. A man who hunted fox and quail, a man who fought for what he believed in, a man who respected others, but who stood up for decency and all our rights. These men fought for all men, including atheists. They fought in battles and wars using guns. Attacking our right to bear arms jeopardizes all our rights, including rights of religion or your right to not believe in any religion or the African-American civil rights or our right to free speech. It isn't there for just our government or just our military, but it there for all of us.

btw, sarcasm in not becoming of a man.
