I just got my G1 with two lenses. Quick shipment across the Atlantic!
So far I've just played with it, but it really seems like a *lovely* camera.

... And I'd actually forgotten it has a hinged screen! I love that.

... You could have posted "the deal is gone" at the top... I used ten minutes to figure that out! :-)

From an 8x10 to an LX3! Haha.

"two large and heavy suitcases with all of its components, not including a very robust tripod. I hauled that gear on several 200+ mile canoe trips through the Canadian wilderness"

Holy cow, man!
I could never do a thing like that.

Yes, all good points. A DSLR has a good size for professional shooting. Though I don't think anybody would complain if their weight (including lenses) dropped by half! Perhaps that won't be solved until nanotechnology flourishes.

Sadly I think the time has passed for the general market to consider 6MP a serious option.

Yes, very well said.

He's probably right.
And I admit if you can make a really good and compact lens too, you have something. Although when I have a zoom on my camera, I really like having it. But it seems zooms get bulky really quick, sadly. Of course in good light a Canon pocket cam makes fantastic pictures.
