*Stands at the bow, facing into the wind, having taken to the sea, and inhales deeply*

Me: I'm king of the--

*Mallory materializes and slaps me*

Me: Yep, that's how the end of The Toast feels, you got it exactly.

This...this is so much. I am going to give this letter to my daughter because as much as it is for me, a Toastie, it is infinitely more so for her, a fierce little STEM need with great hopes and no knowledge of life's obstacles. Maybe by the time she's finding her first job out of college, there won't be obstacles. This gives me hope that we can clear the way, all of us together, for the future. Let's go do it. Let's keep giving them hell!

I hear that people with NT kids want/get alone time. Don't you think you've EARNED yours yet? Go get it. Any kid old enough to walk five blocks and spend money can also be in the same house not interacting with you for an hour.

Personally, I use fresh pads of sketch paper and/or bonus screen time as needed.

This piece was such a beautiful examination of the linguistic frameworks with which we define ourselves and approach the world. Thank you, Iona.

I do! I do! My grandparents' generation used Yiddish like a secret code, so it's almost lost to my parents and me, but I want it back. My husband is Irish, and that language has been lost, too. My daughter is missing two languages of rebellion and insurgence, but only one's on Duolingo, and it's not Yiddish. How do we start?

There's something marvelously aspirational about looking at a precious newborn and sticking her with a solid old lady name like a protective amulet for her longevity and grandoffspring.
