You make me giggle. Wow, how ignorant are you? Stop being political and using old talking points. This is about our children who will be enslaved by the taxes to come and be in debt to a govenment (both Republican and Democrat) that is growing out of control.
Try reading some of the letters and journals from our founding fathers. This is what they ran from, this is what they warned us about. Read the book "1984" and envision what can happen when a government is no longer accountable to the people that formed it.
I don't have all the answers and Bush made a lot of mistakes, one being he doubled our national debt. Now the government wants to double our debt again, equaling our GDP for one year at $14 trillion. Forget you are a Democrat and ask our government to listen to common sense (another good book by the way "Common Sense")
Read history! I beg you!

The entire Iraq war cost about 600 Billion. That was over many years. You are partly right though, Bush doubled our debt during his administration (but the war was not a huge part of that). His government growth was unacceptable then and there is no excuse for running our national debt up to nearly 14 Trillion. This is the debt projected by amount of spending our government will do in the next few years.
Wake up and stop holding on to your party. It is not about Republican or Democrat; they both let us down. They are ingoring the people and we have to take back our government, stop the spending, cut government growth and stop stealing taxpayer money

Dameontc, I am glad you might see the possibilities in my idea. I have not really done any research in Oregon, but this is a priority for next week. I intend to get a copy of the State Consitution and start making some phone calls to anyone who can lead me in the right direction of how to get this on the next state ballot. If this goes like I envision it, this could be huge for all of us who demand term limits.
What state do you live in? Do you have any ideas?

You must have misunderstood me. I know we can't get anything on the federal ballot, but what if someone from each state was able to get an initiative on their own state ballot that only puts restrictions on their own representatives from their own states?

What if the citizens of each state were to gather enough signatures on a petition to introduce a state bill or resolution that would impose term limits on our own representatives? For instance, Oregon may choose to only allow its senators and house representatives to serve one term while Washington may choose to not place limitations on its representatives.
I don't know how the laws in each state would allow this but I think this is the only way to get term limits on our federal representation. Remember that if we limit the time they are in Washington the less likely they will pass legislation that will act for their self interest of re-election. Their actions would not seek to impose taxation or regulation that would hinder their transition back into the "real world" in their own states.
Does anyone know how we can get this started? I will be looking into the Oregon state laws and talk to a few people who might know how to get something on the ballot at the next general election. I see people from every political party voting for limits like this in their own states.

I finally took the time to read the Constitution of the United States. I am 31 and ashamed that it has taken until now to finally wake up and become an accountable citizen of this great nation. My daughter, who is now seven months old, looks to me to provide for her and protect her. This is why I am here.
After reading The Constitution I came to a conclusion that there is nothing we as citizen can do on a federal level about term limits. We are a republic, and our representatives must choose to place these limitations on themselves. Then I started thinking about how our republic functions and how each state has a somewhat independent authority. So, I thought of an idea of how we can impose term limits on our national congressmen and senators.
