Did I miss it, or was there no The Best Of Mallory Ortberg post?

I'm pretty sure your husband is not right when he tells you that you are doing feminism wrong.

For one thing, loads of women have helped us all out. They protested and they argued and they existed in really hostile spaces to make them a little bit less hostile for the next woman who came along. I don't feel like I needed to know them personally to feel like they did me a solid. If that's not sisterhood, I don't know what is, and I think we can all feel like part of that if we want to.

Maybe you having not met ladies who helped you out like that just means that one day it's going to be your job to look out for the ladies of the future.

I don't know, maybe I'm misunderstanding your point. But I don't think sisterhood has to be a direct and in person thing. Nobody on the Toast has ever, as far as I know, directly given me a job or anything, but they have helped me to claim ownership of my skills, to be direct, and to refuse to be anything less than I am. And that's all been what got me where I am.

Right, I'm not normally a fan of passive manipulation but this sounds like a situation where being ideally open might sabotage itself. Can you watch a movie or something with a really romantic proposal or a really not-romantic proposal and oh-so-casually say, "Oh, that's lovely, don't you think?" and try to sound him out, without having directly brough it up?

I read it and then applied to do Classics at Oxford, which I think is an excellent example of why I can't be trusted to watch adverts.

There weren't any actual exit polls this time - it was all done on an online survey tool, which has been unreliable for the last few elections.

That's a family heirloom you've just acquired.

Toasties, you are all so kind it makes me want to cry a little bit. This is probably a surefire sign that I am overtired!
