What I didn’t say is that to lose weight I had to put it at the top of my list and couldn’t let other priorities bump losing weight off its perch, and that was hard. I had to be single-minded and unwavering in my commitment, and those mental and emotional changes were what really were tedious and killing, not the exercise and eating. I felt like I was a monster of selfishness.

This was the line that stuck out to me. It's just so exhausting.

That's part of why I did it. This is a college group, and we had a bunch of people there for the first time (including this girl) who just graduated high school and were checking us out. I was not about to let them think that shit would fly.
