To pay for this, all small businesses will have three choices and will probably choose from a combination of all three. One, prices can be raised but this may hurt business and it will certainly hurt the customer. Two, wages and future pay raises can be lowered or insurance deductions will come out of your pay. Three, we will be unable to employ as many people so layoffs, reduced hours and less hiring may occur. There’s actually a forth option that I feel many small businesses will be faced with and that is closing their doors. This last option we will try to avoid.
If your spouse is employed and has family insurance it is unclear at this point whether or not you will be able to remain insured under his plan if you are also employed.
I’m informing you now so that you will be prepared. It is not expected that the President will have a new plan before the end of the year. It is unclear what the final bill will look like or if it will even get passed.
If you are concerned and want your opinions to affect this healthcare reform, I suggest that you call or write the Congressman and Senators that work for you.

To all employees,
As you may know, the Obama Administration is attempting to push through healthcare reform. While something needs to be done to control healthcare costs, I fear that any plan likely to be endorsed by the President will have significant, long term, negative effects on small businesses like ours.
Specifically various proposals will require the small business owner to ensure that all employees have healthcare insurance. Any companies that don’t will be fined a significant amount. These fines could be as high as $40,000 to our small company. It is uncertain how much it would cost to provide health insurance for all, but it is most likely much more than $40,000.
