Having the fixed headline list at the right side of the layout is a deal killer, because not all browsers deal with fixed content well. I'm using the current version of Firefox, very mainstream, but on 5 of my 6 computers, both the main content and the headline list scroll too slowly to be usable. Have your developers tested this at all on slightly older, slower machines?
I was a starred commenter on io9 and an avid reader of Gizmodo and Jalopnik. I like the content and the writers, but I have not been back since the change, except to see if anything has improved. It's a chore and painful to try to use, and I'm not a masochist.
Edit...Holy cow! I just disabled "Use smooth scrolling" in Firefox, and it speeds up the Gawker sites about 10x! I still think it's a really poor design, but it's at least not as painful to use this way. Maybe I'll give it another chance.
