(The original continuation seems to have vanished, so I'll re-post it ...)

Most of that commercial real estate will be ineligible for refinancing, because it's is just as far "underwater" as the homes in southern California:

This will drive a number of small businesses out of business, and those that survive will be forced to drastically cut staff. Which will, in turn, produce a huge spike in unemployment ... and in home-mortgage defaults.

All of which will provide yet another crisis that's "just too good to waste". Is anyone at all surprised that Goldman-Sachs was "permitted" to pay back their TARP money just a couple weeks before CIT filed their paperwork?

Oh, I wasn't advocating a bailout. I'm just trying to make sure we see the story that the media hasn't noticed yet. (I don't think they're suppressing it, I honestly think they just haven't connected the dots yet.) And I wanted to raise awareness that this is coming, so it won't be a surprise, to try to limit the administration's ability to make it yet aother "crisis" they can exploit.

Gelnn was very right to single out the impending failure of CIT as a significant event. And it doesn't surprise me that he seems to be the only member of the broadcast media to pick up on it. But there's much more to it than just the fact that CIT is a competitor of GE. If fact, I think that detail is just a fairly inconsequential side-note.

CIT is the largest small-business lender in the country. Its failure is the first domino in the next phase of the economic crash:

This will trigger a ripple throughout small businesses nationwide, and it couldn't come at a worse time. We are about to enter another massive round of resets in adjustable mortgages, both for home mortgages AND commercial real estate:

Conservative --> individual creativity, left to itself, will find myriad successful solutions to any problem
Liberal --> only one centrally-planned, government-enforced solution is acceptable

Conservative --> freedom of speech is essential to the preservation of our other liberties
Liberal --> freedom of speech means that you are free to agree with me.

They SHOULD be, but that would be a separate initiative. On that front, I would make pay for a Representative equal to the median household income for his/her district, with no need for them ever to adjust it. Senate pay should be equal to the median household incme for their home state.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't. So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots.

It's not much to ask for the price they paid.
