I say hooray for this guy. He tried to stick it to the government (and the IRS, which is not a government entity) and had limited success for 10 years. Way to go! No one wants to pay in to taxes, having our hard earned money going to some foreign country, fighting a war we don't belong in, and lining the pockets of all the tax cheats. I guess he was fed up and who can blame him. And only 6 months in jail for tax evasion, not bad at all. But he'll have to repay the back taxes, have his credit ruined, and have a mark on his tax return to be audited. Oh, well, I bet it was a fun ride while it lasted.
Wow, the city leaders seem to be the land of morons running the island of idiots. The Five Seasons Center/Hotel project will go over budget, and it will never be upscale like a hotel in Las Vegas. The city is wasting money again hiring these "consultants" at $250K a pop. It's amazing how wasting money like this gets approved so quickly yet the roads remain some of the worst in the state? How is trying to silence a horn, hiring a consultant, possibly putting up crossing arms, and wasting a year and a ton of money more important than fixing the roads? I hate CR so much because of the terrible roads, poorly programmed lights and left turn signals that don't work or lack there of (Williams/16th for example) and the higher sales tax. "It's only a penny" yeah and over $100 it's another dollar that we can't afford. Stop wasting money on stupid projects like this and fix some roads. The city leaders are the reason that CR has gone downhill by hiring out of state worthless consultants, buying the Five and fixing it up, failing to maintain roads, poor snow removal, the Section 8 housing and ghetto problem, and now this? Wake up leaders, CR can't afford you and your carefree disregard for the city in which you are elected to lead.
Wow, who would have thought, adults not old enough to drink alcohol getting drunk before 10 PM and outsmarting the cops. I like it. The only thing Iowa City cares about is money, it can't come in fast enough and they can't squander it fast enough. Kids will find ways to have a drink, and this is just another way around it. Go out at 7 PM, drink for 3 hours, then go to a house party until 2 AM. It's the college life. Not much of a life, but it's a life.
And the same idiots that pas sed this ordinance want to ban all vendors along Melrose because they're not getting a cut of the profits, oh and it's "dangerous." I'm sure the vendor had to jump through a few hoops just to put up a tent, but if they're banned, you'll have the residents along Melrose with their own BBQ and cooler full of sudsy beverages. A nice trip around back for a moment for money to exchange hands and then a guy can have a burger and beer. I'll be the first one to say if they ban vendors, this is what you'll see. So go ahead Iowa City, ban vendors and it'll blow up in your face just like the 10 PM ordinance.
Go out west on I80 west of Des Moines and there are wind farms out there for miles & miles. You have the turbines sitting in a field and you can plant crops around them. It's great that Iowa is participating in this and helping to reduce use of other resources. I think it would be great to see a wind farm in Johnson County. The bad thing is that the person with a wind farm doesn't get free electricity, but they are paid rent each month for the Acre of land that the wind turbine sits on.
They don't have enough cultural diversity, crime, poverty, drugs, you name it. I know there are not a lot of people around here clamoring to go to Chicago. And once you arrive, you have to take a cab everywhere you go or else you'll get mugged. And with a cab, it'll cost just as much as if you drove up there yourself. Yeah, great idea here, let's scrap this idea and concentrate on cleaning up our cities and preventing this from happening again.
Fire at the substation after hours....the cops will never catch them.
You're safe right by the camera. Step out of view and you can get mugged, shot, or whatever the thugs desire. Just wondering how's that new substation working out, 3 blocks away. You'd think they'd learn to keep it manned and have routine patrols by now, but noooo.
First off, I didn't like Culver either, that's the problem with a 2 party election process, but Bumstead was the worst choice Iowa could have made. If you want a balanced budget, here's the solution: Get rid of half of the elected officials that we NEVER hear from until election time and they want your vote. The only thing they do is show up at election time and the rest of the time, collect a paycheck and maybe sign a bill for a pay raise. If we cut half of those making six figures a year, our state would have a surplus of money. But, I guess each state needs more politicians to suck up more tax money. It's a shame that the opposite of progress is congress.
And potatoeman...what good has he done for this state this time or the last time he was in office? He attacked the U of I, went after education, had his brother who worked for IBP bring in truck loads of illegals from Mexico with Spanish job apps, then fire them a week before they received benefits, plus he raised the sales tax twice. What good did he do, hold our state back from succeeding, preventing wind farms and alternative energy? At least Chet did something for the energy of Iowa. And what about his kids who got off a vehicular manslaughter case? If it was ANYONE else, we'd be in jail right now. So yes, this guy earns the d-bag of the decade award, twice.
Gov. Bumstead...closing 19 Workforce offices across the state just to save a few dollars. So the poor, unemployed people of Iowa have to drive further to use a resource that helps so many. Why did people vote for this d-bag. Not even a month in office and he's cut Workforce, preschool funding, and received a pension that most of us don't even make in a year. Wow, 45 months to go, it's going to be a long and shoddy road for us working tax payers. To those of you who voted for him, SHAME ON YOU! Thanks to you, you have put this state in a world of hurt that will take a decade to recover from like last time.
If these thugs would eliminate themselves, no one would cry or care until they all shot each other and in the end, there was only one. Then our society would be better, crime free, and we could walk down the streets again without fear of being shot for wearing the wrong color of clothing. Society as a whole is fed up, the police really don't have a handle on the situation and so society lives in fear of thugs and criminals.
