YES. I love my characters bookish and deeply flawed with some moments of redemption (so of course I adore Fakir a lot, too!) I wish we could've seen more of Autor after the finale, I'm curious to know if he managed to continue to improve on his flaws or if he ended up just sort of...wallowing in his jealousy about not being Drosselmeyer's heir. (Although I like to think it's the former since the official guide said that Fakir considered Autor a friend...)
I remember reading another feminist commentary of Princess Tutu where it also noted that Fakir struggles a lot with gender roles, wanting to be the archetypal knight and saying "I can't protect anyone"...even though he's protected Mytho all along, just in a way that could be described as more motherly. It's sort of an interesting observation that unless he's protecting with a weapon Fakir always feels inadequate and doesn't quite realize how much his emotional support actually helps Mytho and Ahiru...
You know, that's a good point. I guess it's because the show itself emphasizes Ahiru's difficulty communicating in duck form? (Like when she runs quacking to Rue to try to not let her see Mytho "cheating" on her with Anteaterina (and Rue just laughing at her and thinking she's a weird duck), or when she's trying to get Fakir to give her back the pendant and he just calls her cute.) We see her using body language and quacks and flailing wings to communicate, but she never actually attempts to write in duck form, despite clearly being able to read in it.
LOL, I just posted that vid in another thread. Seriously one of the best ever.
Oh no, there's quite a few good Princess Tutu AMVs--I think partially because the show's MADE to work well with music so it works quite well when edited to other tunes--it's just that this particular AMV had such a HUGE impact on the fandom and is fondly remembered even by people who've never seen the show. It's not just the most popular and/or best Tutu vid, it's known as being one of the best AMVs EVER in a lot of circles.
That being said, there's definitely other good ones. I like this one a TON.

I wish I could invite you over to watch it, because it's so much fun. Chris Patton wanting to know why Fakir is a jerk (and shipping Fakir and Mytho the entire time!) Luci squealing like a fangirl! Jay Hickman (Mytho) showing off his knowledge of opera! The translators analyzing the show! (Sometimes in ways I disagree with but it's still all cool.) There's some good stuff in there.
LOL, yeah, it's mostly funny because Chris couldn't resist throwing in a joke BUT that probably means it's best saved for when you're less emotional. XDDD
Oh man, Amako is the best. <3 I really like mangaka-chan's art, too.
YES, I'M AN AUTOR GIRL AND YOU DESCRIBED PERFECTLY WHY YES. Actually back when I was more active in the Tutu community I was pretty well known for being a prominent fangirl of his and writing a massive heap of fanfics (some of which maybe glorified him a little TOO much...but yeah XD). Also once on LJ there was a community where you'd fill out a questionaire and members would vote on what character they thought you were the most like...and I unanimously got Autor for my bookish, obsessive, kinda snobby personality. So whenever I deal with the Tutu fandom I tend to use Autor as something of an avatar. XD
(One of them was nice enough to at least say "a more well-adjusted Autor" I guess...)
LOL, I don't know, I think if I liked a character enough I would use them as an avatar even if they were a horrible person, but...yeah, the main reason I like him is that he's SUPER flawed but still manages to have moments to show that he could be a better person...eventually.
If we'd ever gotten our fabled third season I'm sure he would've gotten more character development.... orz
