I agree. I live in a mushrooming town in the East Midlands and I feel like the left-over pastry after the main pieces have been cut out.

To think there is anything noble or good about people like Hammond is stretching the truth to the point of absurdity. In another era, dismissal from their party would be the least of their worries. They connived with a foreign power working against their own country and government.

In attempting to defend the indefensible, you bring yourself down also.

I agree in principle and anyone would be foolish to not want a deal/international treaty to cover a transition period. However, I feel that just as anyone would be foolish to not want a deal, it would also be foolish to want any old deal. Boris' deal is a bit too close to being an undesirable deal for me. One of the few things that Theresa May ever said that resonated was that "no deal is better than a bad deal". How bad does it have to get to be undesirable?

The Conservative Party doesn't have many friends amongst other political parties and a lot of enemies pitched against them. Only the DUP springs to mind as a "friend" although they had to be given a huge amount of tax payer money to support the Conservative Party. The Brexit Party is offering co-operation for free. It seems churlish and short-sighted of your party to refuse.

There is, across the western world at least, a huge online mob who dole out verbal abuse of the worst kind. Online, it is as if any veneer of decency is lost and the worst that people are comes out uncensored. "...the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart...".

An example of this kind of witch hunt and the failure of those in positions of authority to do anything other than capitulate, is given below.

"“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” I am sorry for your experiences. It must be awful.

"...claims that MPs need to be paid more to bring them in line with “comparable” professions elsewhere – in order to attract the right people."

MPs claim that they need equitable pay with those in comparable levels of employment. However, in other fields, whose pay they seek to emulate, there are stringent requirements of experience, qualifications and aptitude. Our politicians need, at most, to wear the right colour rosette and maybe shout the odds louder than the next person. That is not to say there are many hard working, well qualified and experienced people in parliament but there are far too many who are none of those things.

Then too, with so much of our law being made by Brussels, they have made themselves into yet another tier of very expensive government who have little more to do than make vexatious laws to tie the rest of us up into knots.

There is nothing that this parliament can do to salvage its reputation. Suggesting that it could implies that years of bad faith can be put right by one reluctant act of decency. They are actively trying to bring this country down - what could put that right?

And the Conservative Party should beware seeking to find a way to bring the worst offenders back in to the party. They taint everything they touch.

I supported the Union until devolution. Where is England's parliament? Where is our Minister of State? Where is our saint's bank holiday? Where is our national anthem? Where is our Brexit Secretary? These things have been asked for but refused.

Once I started looking into how the Union currently works, it made me feel resentful that people, especially in Scotland, appear to hate us ("Anyone but England") yet take our money and protection. Why are we sending billions to NI - so that they don't blow us or themselves up? How come an EU citizen can go to a Scottish university for free but England's students have to pay?

England needs more money that the other parts of the Union because most of the immigration is to England - and not all immigrants are rocket scientists. English nationalism has been conflated with racism while the nationalism of the constituent parts of the Union is lauded and encouraged.

All in all, I feel that politicians have used England as a source of money to inflate their massive egos as they spend it anywhere and everywhere - but England.

I notice some mention of "life" sentences. I think we should cut through the attempt to deceive which in fact, deceives no-one, and call it what it is. "A slap on the wrist" maybe?

Excellent article and I admire your ambition.

However, the border forces (oops! service) does not seem to be doing its job by any stretch of the imagination. Why are foreign criminals getting back in? Where are the passport checks given we are not part of the Schengen zone? Why are they doing any sort of check on illegal migrants when they arrive instead of sending them back to France on the next boat? Why, when illegal immigrants are found are they sent away until their plane ticket home arrives? Of course they are never seen again.

The whole system of law enforcement is in tatters. Law and order in this country is a bad joke. We certainly do have many laws but not much justice. You are on the right track though.
