I agree, and it's not just them; it seems like these sort of antics have been de rigeur among choruses/choirs for the past few years. I don't know it they think it automatically makes it seem as if they're "feeling" the music or if it makes them more soulful, but it's completely unnatural and a bit silly. It reminds me of people who hold their hand up to their ear when they sing as if they're always in an imaginary recording studio.
