OK, I know i ain't as smart as these big shots at Duke and the "attorneys representing North Carolina consumers ". But this makes no sense to me at all, "The Charlotte-based utility and the consumer lawyers announced Tuesday a proposed settlement agreement that would phase in an 8 percent general rate increase over two years starting Jan. 1. But some agreed-to adjustments would lower the overall increase to 7 percent.". If they are dead and determined to up the rates, why not just raise them 3.5% over two years that would make it 7% total...maybe i ain't adding like those guys and gals do. :)

kripit3...I don't know what the deal is with Intense Debate/Post . I had to sing in and out about three times before I could respond. It never did open using Internet Explorer 8, I used Foxfire and it opened without any problem.

I am a firm believer in the old saying, 'I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it,' I don't agree with what many people say, but I feel they have the right to say it. The first amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances". No where does it say it has to be "Intelligent" speech, which is a shame. Maybe, Mr. Roberts was expressing himself to the best of his ability. Even though, I agree in principle with what Mr. Roberts had to say, I don't condone the words he chose. True debate should be carried out without personal feeling and name calling A better point is made and accepted when one doesn't alienate those to whom an opposing view point is be being conveyed.

My gripe isn't so much with who was chosen, but the categories, or lack there of, that was chosen for the Hall of Fame. Instead of one catch-all category for the hall of fame, why not have more than one category. There could be a category for drivers, crew chiefs, teams and owners & businessmen/women. Sure there may be some overlap of the inductee's in the different categories, but if they are deserving putting'em to the vote. I do have to agree that David Pearson should have made the cut.

I may get lampooned for this post, but here goes anyway. I get upset, when I see people like Jackson, Sharpton and now this upstart, John C. Barnette do nothing, but travel around the state and country agitating the masses. What is even more disturbing is they do this under the guise of religion. If one takes notice, most of these so-called "activist/preachers" usually operate as a non-profit organization, which means, all the monies they take in are for the "Ministry", so no taxes are paid. It is also a shame these people are robbing the very people they profess to care about so much. Chastity Ramsey obviously doesn't respect the laws of the land or the officers that are sworn to uphold those laws. But yet, they're going to hold a rally for the poor little thing, absurd. But to act as she did with her child in the car, demonstrates that some of those capable of breeding...really shouldn't.
