Little Witch Academia is a short anime which was produced as part of a young animators training project.
Despite it's shortness (about 25 minutes) it manages to establish a universe, the main character's background and motivation, as well as a solid supporting cast consisting of her two friends, her multi-faceted rival and the witch she idolized her entire young life.
And to top it off, it contains a self contained plot with plenty of action and lore while striking a good balance between dialogue and action, with a bare minimum of exposition.
The artwork is striking and creative, character designs are distinct and the animation is fluid. And it has My Little Pony references in it, which probably explains a lot.

Sure, the anime helps itself to the usual character tropes, but that doesn't prevent it from being engaging and entertaining.

I can highly recommend this anime, unless you are afraid of watching a show focusing and meant for little girls ... :)

well, since it was nowhere mentioned which responsibilities Cadance has in addition to Twilights workload you can't say that she avoided her responsibilities. she even found the time to check up on Spike in case he needed help .... which he insinuated he didn't need.

Nah, this is just another 'Spike is an idiot' episode. No character development for him.
