Quite literally, the only thing keeping a significant majority of the conservative 50+ crowd here is Prop 13.

There needs to be a dedicated effort to refocus the idea of military spending- libs love to pretend it all goes into a deep, dark hole but it is a huge (and vital) part of our economy. Yeah, it seems obvious to us- but I'm not so sure Joe Average can connect the dots in between all of the rhetoric.

This issue is just begging for a PAC.. and probably a very well funded one at that.

I've tried to offer my help to the Breitbart crew to sort out issues like these but I'm not sure anyone actually cares.

My own congressional district is a total nightmare now- it spans 40-50 miles (in LA!) and includes all of the most affluent areas while doing some amazing gymnastic work to avoid the middle-class ones. Whomever ends up in that seat will be there for a very, very long time.

Not all conservatives feel the need for government to interject into the lives of individuals.

Johnson just doesn't sell himself well. Conservatives are looking for someone willing to eat raw meat in front of an audience and Gary (even if he's right in his thinking) comes off as a 'golly gee' type when asked a question. Newt, Christie, Cain, etc excel at this..

I actually like Johnson- the problem is that he comes off as the most wishy-washy, indecisive guy in the room (when he's just the opposite). If he hired someone to help him with mannerisms and if he could bullet-point his ideas he would stand a chance.

Then why did HuffPo sell for 300M+? Either they have created something of value or those investors wanted something back. That's not a sweetheart deal by any stretch of the imagination.

Arianna figured out pretty early that the site had to be well designed and logically laid out (look at any 'funded' site from the left and you'll see a similar pattern) that is in stark contrast to what we usually find on the right- I might admire the writing and insight, but honestly most conservative blogs have a "I'm angrily punching the keys in my basement while wearing a tin foil hat" vibe to them.

So from that standpoint, yes.. we have a long way to go before conservative internet media can be monetized because it's simply not ready for public consumption. We don't really value style, just content, and while the opposite is true for the other side I'd argue a successful site should have both.

This subject is a bit maddening to me as a web design/internet marketing type. It's easy for me to see what's wrong (or could be improved) but nearly impossible to get through to anyone to actually help fix it.

One idea- create a conservative blog network and sell ads across it. One blogger with 10k visitors/month isn't going to get anywhere, but 15-20 with 1M+ eyeballs every month are in a much better position to negotiate some sort of deal.

As for conservative donors.. "Landfill" is the most appropriate name I've ever heard for their strategy. It wouldn't shock me to learn that the people who ultimately produce a creative item for a campaign (video, website, print, etc) are making a tenth of what the leech...er.... consultants do on a regular basis. These are the ones we should be dragging out into the light.

Most conservatives can't disagree.. the only problem is that we have intervened in the past and are under some obligation to leave things better than we found them.

If Paul came out with a rational plan for troop withdrawal over a period of years we'd all be listening. Second issue is that defense/military spending is a huge chunk of our economy (that liberals pretend is just thrown down a hole). There has to be a balance, and a controlled come-down.
